Not surprised. They are currently illegally hiring drivers in my market.

Nah, all of the NOLA drivers are properly insured and licensed.

I doubt that's the case in other cities though.

They are hiring UberX drivers which don't have permits to drive for hire cars.

Why should it? An executive got drunk at a dinner party and said some outlandish threat.

The author sounds butthurt.

Why do people jeep banging on Uber. Just let it be if it sucks. No one would use it right? But if it's legit, then it will prosper.

What's wrong with you people ? If the market is there, why can't they attack it?

I get rides from people I met over the internet more often than I should. Usually barter a beer with them.

I have definitely noticed a steady decline in the quality of drivers in Atlanta. Of course I am being a cheapass and using UberX. Maybe I should shell out a few extra bucks for the Uber Black.

This doesn't really sound like an isolated incident

Yeah...uber seems pretty scummy. I think I may finally give Lyft a try.

It's a company challenging the status quo with large group with money at stake.

No doubt they will fight with everything they have, and they should.

Surge pricing is awesome. It is supple and demand at its finest. If you don't want to pay it, then you do not have to. Uber is an on-demand, premium service. If you want to wait for a taxi and deal with swiping credit card information when you are done with it, then that is your prerogative...you may just need to wait 30 minutes for the yellow cab to show up while Uber is 5 minutes.

If Lyft starts undercutting Uber prices in surge scenarios, then the market will react. However, I see no way Lyft drivers are going to be ok with getting paid less for doing the same thing as their Uber counterparts.

I don't really care about the company itself and I'm not a socially conscious investor or consumer, I just find the defense of a car for hire company to be laughable.

The people in charge do seem to be douches though
