Gonna have games where the ball doesn't fall. Absolutely loved the grind this team had.

Hate Mickey taking 3's. He's money at 18 footers, but stepping back 3 feet he is terrible. Before people start saying he can make it...he's literally 0 for 7 in his career

Shot FT's great until game was on the line, if Gray and Hornsby want the ball to get fouled, make the damn FT's.

Texas Tech isn't a great team, but they are a great team to play early in the year to get your team prepared for a hard fought and physical game. Very proud of this team and now I'm looking forward to win the Paradise Jam...just wish I was going

Box score says there were 8010. But of course that's paid attendance, not actual.

A couple of great post game quotes.

From Tubby Smith
quote:

On Jordan Mickey…

“I thought our best defense was our offense. We tired to keep the ball out of his hands for as long as we could because they were going to score. They have four guys averaging over 17 points a game. We had a good game plan. It’s just disappointing we couldn’t finalize it. (Jordan) Mickey is a great athlete and great player. He was the key at the end. He really stuck the jumper at the end to tie it up and then win it. He’s really a clutch player."

And
Jordan Mickey
quote:

On how big tonight’s win is for the team …

“We don’t look at games as big games. Our biggest game is the next game on our schedule. Tonight, we came out and did what we needed to do to win. It was a great win for us, and it showed ourselves what our team is capable of doing. We need to continue to do it every night.”

Great night at the PMAC. One of the better crowds for an early season game. Really into it.

Great 2nd half from the team.....I feel like we didn't have many good 2ND halves last year. We still need to stay smart on offense and play that second half for the whole game. I thought our man to man for the first part of the 2nd half was pretty good.....if we play defense that hard and play smart offense I think we Will see pretty good improvement this year.

but we have GOT to get coached better than tonight.

A lot of our fans are predisposed to assess poor coaching as the blame for all team problems. We didn't win by 30 points? Oh, it's poor coaching.

I wonder what Johnny told gray at the end before he shot the FTs. The announcer said he was telling him to look for the open pass when driving to the rim. I think the announcer said Martin was under the rim wide open.

Sometimes it's hard to evaluate poor coaching from poor player decisions.

The one thing that grinded me last night was us continuing to jack up the 3. Some were open looks, some weren't.
Mickey for 1, needs not to shoot 3's especially in a tight game. And he needs to keep working on his on ball D. But, he had such a nice stroke from 15-18 ft.

Good to see Martin attack some and not settle for the jumper too much.

Hornsby had a rough shooting game and sure has a weird looking shot. But, those back to back 3's were huge.

Gray did some good and some bad. He really battled on the defensive end, especially in the 2nd half. Can't really get too upset about him driving and creating contact late in the game. Better than passing the ball around and us taking a crap shot with the clock running down. Just need to make the FT's.

Quarterman's D helped the 2nd half. Hopefully his offense keeps/starts improving.

What's scary is we need some of our bench players to step up.
Epps?? what's with the continued jacking of 3's early in the shot clock.
Bridgewater battled, but man he's short down there. Robinson is a work in progress, but his size will help once he gets used to the college game. Patterson should provide a little depth.

Good win against a scrappy team. Like someone said, this is the kind of early season games this team will need.

Man what a game. I was about to break something after the last five minutes of the first half. Then jarells windmill happened. BOSS. Good game and crowd wasn't too bad considering its this early in the season.

I like Quartermans's size and defense, but let's be honest, he's an absolute train wreck on offense. I'd prefer he never touch the ball.

And he's just not going to improve on offense. He was bad last year and was bad again last night. Keep hoping, but it's not going to happen. He just doesn't have the skills. But I do like his D.

He's not a good shooter, but to call him a train wreck on offense is being extremely dramatic.

Oh, you're one of these types. Nevermind.

True, but not off by a lot. It's not just his shooting, it is his decision making also. I just can't understand why someone like him wouldn't have been in the gym three or four hours in the offseason working on his shooting and dribbling. If he did do this and still can't shoot . . . well . . .sigh!

On the other hand his defense and hustling are absolutely first rate. He will get lots of playing time just based on this. If a shot or two drops in as well, just icing on the cake.
