A person leaving your life for whatever reason. What are your thoughts? How do you react?

depends entirely on the situation, who it is, the circumstances, etc.

I think to myself, "Later."

Then I remind myself, not really.

Do the got your nose game but turn around and walk away, never giving them back their nose.

I couldn't tell you for sure since I never see them again, but I'm pretty sure it messes them up good.

That depends on who they are and what sort of relationship you have with them. Your reaction can be anything from "meh" to "good riddance" to complete Despair.

...SUCKS. That certainty you'll never see someone again has only happened to me when I know someone is dying, and that has happened a few too many times in my life.

Try to act brave in front of them. Say "See you soon" knowing that's a lie. Then leave & cry.

Detoured on a road trip vacation to visit my aunt who was dying of cancer. I ran back into the house twice for another hug, but never cried in front of her.

I have no issue letting go of losers but its the ones where you know there is something there but time and circumstances forces you to say goodbye. Those are tough.

my Bro-in-law asked me "to look after his boys" on his deathbed

was surreal,, it was all too real, yet was unbelievable .

only time I knew I would not see that person ever again, I would be ok without having to experience that again

I have seen quite a few people die but I didn't know the vast majority of them. It is hard when it is someone you know but you do get calloused with people you don't know after seeing it numerous times.
