Georgia Power uses "smart" cellular meter here in Georgia. They get readings via SouthernLinc's cell sites. No meter readers in the field to get bit.

Likely nothing will happen as the reader has a right to your neighbors yard to read the meters.
I'd still go down there and raise hell about it though.

actually, a hell of a lot of meter readers get bit by dogs...and a good percentage of dogs do not bark at all before they bite...
pepper spray is the most humane way that I can think of for a meter reader to avoid dog bites and is pretty much the standard way of dealing with it in the service sectors...
short story is, while it may be offensive to the homeowner, the best thing the meter reader could have done in a situation like that is to spray the dog and nothing should be done to him for doing it....

Did the neighbor see it happen? Brown dogs don't always take kindly to brown people.

City court or district?

my meter transmits a signal and the reader drives by my house to get the reading

A lose dog? I can see why this happened.
Why was a hunting dog not penned anyway? Just coincidence that the meter-reader happened by while he'd let him out? When I had good labs I never let them out if I wasn't going to either hunt them, work them or play with them. Didn't leave them out without being around though.

so you're implying it's the owners fault for having the dog locked up in his back yard?
To the OP - tell your neighbor to have Entergy call him whenever they want to come out and read the meter so you can lock your dog up that day. If that gets to be a hassle you can have them install a wireless reader that will allow them to get the meter reading from the end of the driveway and without accessing the property. It cost me around $100 a couple years ago. Well worth the $$$ and the peace of mind of not having an urbanite snooping around your backyard.
My dog used to scare the shite out of the meter man. My dog hates all black people. I have no idea why.

Mattie's bark is worse than her bite.

He should just let it go and tell the energy company to tell him next time before they come out so that he can keep his dog inside. Oc spray is not going to do any permanent damage to a dog.

agreed...if you pay attention, they probably read that route on the same day every month, so you may not even have to call more than a couple of times...

They can adjust your meter in which they can access it remotely. I use to send them paper card readings then they got tired of reminding me monthly.
According to the O-T, be glad the meter guy was not a cop

move the meter outside of a fenced area its all he can do or just wait for the meter guy and whip his arse next month.

yup. and it allows you to choose variable energy plans that can save a shite ton of money.
i would seriously go totally insane if someone sprayed my dog in that context. (one of my dogs is racist as hell though--he's just like Brian on Family Guy--he tries his hardest to be nice but then just starts growling involuntarily.)

You guys realize that humans volunteer for pepper spray training and end up just fine? You also realize that we are talking about a dog? The dog will be fine, the neighbor will simmer down and all will be forgotten in a day. I just don't see the big deal here. If my dog got sprayed, he probably deserved it.

Its a crazy thought but ya know maybe your neighbor shouldn't have his dog wandering around and it would prevent these things

Meter woman did the same to my Great Dane but never admitteed to it. Gas co did nothing. Dog hated her forever after and would try to eat her through the fence if she ever saw her. Had to put the dog in the garage whenever the meter reader would come by after that.

tell your buddy to sit by the meter next month, when the dumbshit approaches to record the numbers he likely won't announce who he is or why he's there so your buddy then could pepper spray his arse and claim he felt threatened by a trespasser. Repeat as necessary...
