Stumbled across this 7 part documentary about the legendary underground New Orleans metal scene from the 80's and 90's til today on youtube the other day. Interview subjects include Phil Anselmo (Pantera/DOWN/Superjoint Ritual), Pepper Keenan (Graveyard Rodeo/Corrosion of Conformity/DOWN), Kirk Windstein (Crowbar/DOWN), Mike Williams (Eyehategod), and Jimmy Bower (Eyehategod/DOWN/Crowbar/Mystick Krewe of Clearlight/Superjoint Ritual).
One of the reasons Pepper Keenan is probably my favorite hard rock/metal guitarist is exemplified when he names The Meters as one of his biggest musical influences because of their groove and playing behind the beat.
Videos include profane language.

Nice post... espically with all the links.
I started to watch part one. Havne't gotten any further.
I got into DOWN here recently as it was a band I was always aware of just never gave much play. These documentaries were a big reason for me to get into them more so.
Love the music

I'm fairly certain that everyone in these videos can kick my lily white arse.

I went there after the Down show at Tips a few years ago and they weren't there. Tips is right around the corner and Southport isn't even in New Orleans so I doubt they'd be there.

I've been to Le Bon Temps Roule 5 or 6 times since Keenan bought it. Saw him there twice. One time I was really drunk and I may have squealed like a little school girl. Got raped.
