Update: Open Enrollment

A few week's back I posted that during open enrollment, my company informed us that they were no longer to offer 90/10 coverage. After several complaints, the CEO issued a response. I have removed the names to protect the innocent, but this was the reason for dropping 90/10 from our plan:
quote:
Response from CEO:
The decision to discontinue the Choice 90/10 Plan wasn’t an easy one, but we took into account the short- and long-term challenges it poses. As I mentioned in another response, the (company) is self-insured and covers employees’ health care costs itself. When we looked at the projections for 2015, it was apparent that continuing to offer the 90/10 plan would result in a 30 percent increase in employees’ premiums to offset the rising cost of health care claims.
That’s the short term. In the long term, continuing to offer plans like this could have resulted in the bank incurring a 40 percent “Cadillac tax,” which is an Affordable Care Act excise tax that penalizes companies that offer high-end health care plans to employees.

Damn that sucks. The company my wife works for has horrible coverage options for 2015. I looked into the healthcare.gov plan this morning and it actually looks pretty good. Actually thinking about making the switch but seems to good to be true.

Oh yea I'm not getting my hopes up. However, if these "estimates" are pretty close to true I will be ecstatic.

You'll have a choice from all the Caribbean Med School Doctors who graduated in the bottom 1% of their respective classes.

The estimates are nowhere near reality.
They designed the website to give you those numbers first, when you actually enroll it will be vastly different

My man if those cost are true, then someone else will be paying for the rest of it for ya.
That company would not stay in business long if that were the only payments. But hey, let us all know so that we can get in on that.
If something sounds to good to be true>>>>???

Did the unions know about this? I bet they'll be pissed off if they have to drop their plans.

The unions have been trying to get waivers...

Haven't you made enough money already? No one deserves a plan as good as you have! Pay up sucka! You didn't build that!
Now jump in your private jet and go ride horses with Ann Romney!

Well, I would certainly think that if a union could get a waiver, so could any other company. Right?

Yeah but now everyone can have insurance, because ya know....it's a right. So you should want to pay more. Why you so greedy??

As I mentioned in another response, the (company) is self-insured

I don't believe I said that, but it's written in the previous post if I did. I am just posting this to show that this is the trickle down effect, when corporations are hit with these stiff penalties it is passed down to the employees, so yes we are being affected, so that "everyone" can have health insurance. "sorry if this was a raciest or sexist comment".

quote:I might have you confused with another poster who started a very similar thread. However your company indicated that it isn't offering the plan because of the rising costs of the claims. The "long term" dig at the ACA may or may not be valid, but it looks like it was going away regardless.

I found the costs very hard to believe too. My wife is a recruiter and I am a petroleum engineer so we are outside the subsidy by a good amount.

I thought that the Government had guaranteed profits to the insurance companies for a couple of years to offer low rates. Let me see if I can find anything to back this memory up...
