Do they Saints keep him next season? Reasons for and against. His dead money hit for 2015 is nearly a push.

shite for hands is an even break, makes one or two awesome plays, then 2-3 mind blowing, drive killing, crunch time drops...maybe a fumble added in for some overtime fun

He's projected to put up a career low 850 yards. He's no longer the #1 WR, but still would be a solid 4th option on a team that passes as much as we do. The question becomes, is Nick Toon ready to replace him.

Colston's cap hit is:
2015: 9.7mil (Dead: 5.4mil; Savings: 4.3mil)
2016: 10.5mil (Dead: 2.7mil; Savings: 7.8mil)

The catch is, a June 1 cut shifts it to 2.7mil dead, 7.0mil savings this year.

Issue is, you get less cap savings in 2016 in comparison to outright cutting him.

The part I think is key: 6.9mil base salary. You get him to reduce his salary to 3.0mil and your cap hit drops to 5.8mil (right where his worth is imo).

Evidently, Toon isn't even ready to play on a part time basis.

We tried to renegotiate his contract but the pen kept falling right between his fingers.

Lest we not forget how very good he's been. But he has let us down a good bit lately.

If he wants league vet minimum he can stay, otherwise he gone. For the 5 million or so they save cutting him I'm sure they can find someone on the FA market who you can get better production from with that money. He's done. Way past his prime. Production was falling off last year and he just hit a wall this year. He's going to need to take a big cut to stay here.

If cut, would the Saints go WR in the first round again?

Not knocking Cooks because he is very talented, but I don't think he will be a wr 1 by next season. And with the 5 million yall would save (i think that is what someone said the # would be) could that afford a wr 1?

He's not supposed to be our #1. Jimmy Graham is the #1 receiver.

I don't see how that helps your argument.

Toon isn't going to replace him. I have no faith in Nick Toon and have already given up on him.

What argument?

I made that post because when certain people read it, they'll know what it means.

are you one of them?

Either he takes a pay cut to somewhere around the amount that his dead money would be or cut him. I love Colston. Without a doubt one of the all time greatest Saints but he isn't worth his salary anymore.

Not in the first round, but maybe in the second round. This team has more issues than WR right now.

ILB - Hawthorne is likely gone, he's just a waste of money and playing time.
CB - We need a solid #2, White and PRob are not it, but Patrick is a solid #3. Notice most teams start to pick on White > anyone else in this secondary.
G - Grubbs or Evans are likely gone - their play for their pay is HORRIBLE.

You see teams like Green Bay and Denver, they're loaded with weapons, but when a player with very good potential fell into their laps, they take them.

Cobb, even though they had Jennings and Jordy
Adams, even though they had Cobb and Jordy
Latimer, even though they had ...well you know everyone and their mom.
