I haven't played gaming consoles since the PS2 about 15 years ago. Likely to get one for my 7 year old boy. Looking at the Xbox 360 with kinnect. Is that a good choice?

He has friends with the 360 and the PS3. He can't tell me which he likes better. His mom likes the kinnect thing.

The 360 and PS3 are now the old consoles. The newest ones are the Xbox One and PS4.

You can get a 360 for cheap nowadays, and there is a massive log of games available, just realize that they'll stop releasing games for that console in the near future.

Also, if you looking for something more kid/family friendly, get the WiiU.

Wii U is the best system to get right now in terms of the quality games you can get

That is probably true. Bayonetta 2 is one if the best rated games put out so far.

OP, don't buy your 7 year old Bayonetta.

I didn't want to drop 400 on the latest and greatest for a 7 year old. He would be happy with the 3 or 360. We have a Wii (not the U) but he is starting to get into the sports games and those seem better on the other platforms.

Would you get the 4 or 1 for a 7 year old?

The question really is, "will he be playing online?"

If not, get the 360 or PS3 and pick up some of the sports games for that. You can still play online if that's what his friends have too.

Just remember it's a subscription service.

I currently have the PS4. I like it, but I wish I would've bought the One for reasons that you likely won't care about.

Both are good console, but both are pricey.

If you want to get him something just to play with his friends or by himself at home, get the older console for cheap.

That's just my two cents.

That is true.

Also, I hate the PS3 controller.

I got the Xbox One for my then 7 year old last christmas. If you do buy him a 360 or PS3, just know that in 3-4 years you'll be buying an Xbox One or PS4 along with all new games that aren't backwards compatible.

No creep. Well maybe, but it's none of your business, pedo gamer.

Thanks. Is the kinnect thing worth going with the 360 or is it something that is cool as a novelty, but rarely used?

Those systems will probably be $100 cheaper by then, so I will have both systems at essentially the same price as buying the more expensive one now. Right?

This. I had one on the 360 and got an Xbone without kinnect because i never used it.

It didn't work great on the 360 either. Background noise like fans or the tv itself would make it difficult to hear the command

There were some fun Kinect games, but it wasn't a really utilized tech and had some flaws. It has improved with the new machine.

There are some well rated kinect games though.

Child of Eden
Wreckateer
Raving Rabids
Fruit Ninja
Kinect Adventures

To name a few.

Just realize that the tech is pretty flawed and responses can be bad at times.

I am in the same boat as you. My 7 year old girl wants a new console. We have a Wii. I think I will get the Xbox 1 with kinect. I thought about the Wii U but she wants to play Minecraft and Wii U doesn't have the minecraft game. In fact I went to target and got some xbox 1 games since they are buy 2 get 1 free.
