Why?

Pelicans have Asik, Davis, and Holiday, who are all supposed to be good defensive players, and a coach who is supposed to be a defensive coach.

I don't get it. What am I missing?

Small sample size skews easily. That's almost all from giving up 118 last night. They were anywhere from 7-11 depending on which site you checked when I was looking during the day yesterday.

Two teams scored very well against us, Dallas and Cleveland. Heading into the season those were predicted to be two of the best three offenses in the league. It's also not a coincidence that in every loss the opposing SF(James, Prince/Carter, Parsons) has had their best game of the season. We have no one to guard then except Davis, but unless the opponent is playing small he has to guard a big

The Cleveland game made a drastic difference.

We have all suspected that despite Davis/Asik/Holiday, this would be a bad defensive team. Undersized SG, undersized "SF", Ryan Anderson isn't a good defender, and the bench players are defending extremely poorly.

We are also pushing the pace a lot more this year, which adds more possessions to a game.

saying "defensive" head coach doesn't mean he's good at it btw. He's never had a very high ranking defensive team, at all.

looking at ratings this early is idiotic, lets wait til mid season.

fyi, points per game would be affected by pace, but defensive rating wouldn't be,

I am well aware. I was just talking about the defense in general.

It doesn't work like that. Anyone is free to post here I'm not doing anything that could be interpreted as trolling. Might as well get over it.

I still think it's too early in the season to make any firm judgments. We'll see where the defensive rating is after 20 games have been played.
