Do you think employers should be required to pay people when they are at home sick?

Required? By a state? No.

Do I think it's a huge deal economically? Nah. It's just going to get priced in to their salary offerings long term. Employers aren't stupid. They know that "paid sick leave" is really just "leave".

Hell no.

People need to leave other people alone when they are voting for shite like this.

frick. No.

I sure wish people would wake up and realize that no government should have the "right" to jump in the middle of voluntary contracts.

This shite is WAY out of hand.

Not required. It would be nice if offered.

Required? No

I think it's a good diea for employers to do it, though.

The thing is, most middle class and upper class jobs come with paid sick leave. The issue is with the low wage, low benefits jobs. I don't want a mcdonalds worker touching my food with his flu-ridden hands because he can't afford to miss work.

Many jobs offer it, the problem is that virtually no low wage jobs offer it.

As part of an employee package (to attract better employees) great!

but if you want to get it, then get out of your low wage gig.

Aspire to something better.

Don't know. I just don't agree with paid sick leave that is required.

Could be because I have a million "sick" days on the books at my gig :P.

WHich is why he has a supervisor to send his arse home.

that being said, I see where you are coming from...but the question was should the state mandate this.

If you want paid sick leave, fricking as for it. I dunno why people hold the belief they need government to get what they want. But I forget, most people are disposable in the workforce, so they need a handicap compared to those that hold the skill-set to compel a company to provide pre-employment demands.

Nope but I am NOT surprised that this has been passed. More states will now follow this trend.

Its just another expense forced down the throats of business via goverment mandates that the ultimate consumer will be paying for.

Its the general direction our nation is headed toward, socialism.

Mandatory paid maternity leave is next on the agenda. It will eventually happen.

Well, since you put it this way...

I worked retail after college and had a boss who took pride in coming in with flu and fever. He would get mad at those of us who would stay at home after catching what he brought to work.

It is government's responsibility to protect workers from exploitation. Paid sick leave is part and parcel of everyday life in 2014 as is vacation, insurance (not us) etc. Sometimes it takes gov action to protect people from those who screw them. Took gov action to end segregation, workers comp, Fair labor laws, 40 hour work week. Unions won't help

So in your world just how much paid sick time should an employer grant to an employee?

They work at McDonalds, I would think their flu ridden hands would be the least of my worries.
