quote:Nothing substantial as of yet. Fall ball is a terrible time to get a good idea of how any changes might affect the game. For one, you're playing with many young, inexperienced guys and rusty returners who are either not likely to play in the spring or will be in much different roles. Second, these are not ideal conditions whether it be the weather or pitchers being left in situations they wouldn't normally be in just to make sure they get in the work. Finally, the sample size is just too small with the changes being so minimal that it's difficult to discern any affect at all.
Any word on the new balls and how the pitchers and hitters have adjusted?
I know adjustments are taking place with throwing/gripping the ball from all the pitchers and position players. Smaller seams makes the ball feel smaller in your hand. Pitchers are dealing with control problems and infielders had issues with the ball "sailing" on them.
Unfortunately, all this comes down to is the cliche... "Wait and see"

In the fall, LSU averaged 59 AB per HR.
In the 2014 regular season, it was 51 AB per HR.
For the 2013 regular season, it was 50 AB per HR.
Naturally, in the fall you basically had the eventual starters and bench players both getting ABs during the scrimmages. That is the major reason why the HR average is not as good, IMO.
I still think we'll see more HRs and more offense.

Hard to read too much into fall ball, but I'll take that as a good sign.

And lower seams will cause shallower forehead dents...

It's amazing when you look at that... his hat was pulled down to his eyebrows, the ball hits below the brim, yet the bump is up at his hairline.

With Ibarra on the staff now, we're going to perfect that 5-6 pop up.
