Pelicans would be better off not playing Eric Gordon at all?

True

How could anyone say false? Dude is the worst player on the court, by a wide margin

He went from bringing some stuff to the table to literally bringing zero to the table as a basketball player.

His D has been fantastic and he'll start making shots

his defense has actually been very good this year, according to DRating metrics.

but his offense…not so much. his PER before tonight was -.4 according to basketball reference

Fantastic?

I dunno about that bro

And we'll see about the shots. Hopefully he'll be making those shots coming off the bench for 10-15 minutes a game, because Austin Rivers is a better basketball player than he is right now.

What role should he play in this team to bring out the best in him? Defensive Specialist?

I'd say true if wasn't for the breathing time on the bench he gives other players...For an already small bench, we need all the help we can get

Yes, fantastic. We've established that you can't look at anything he does objectively, so I'm not surprised.

His D has been very good, and he's putting in effort there. I'm not sure if he's got it in him to be such a non-factor on offense though. He's the 5th wheel when Anderson's in. He's obviously struggling where people like Rivers are used to picking their few spots. It's all comfortability at this point. If he can't adjust, him leading the bench may be what's best to get him into the flow of the game.

ETA: I'm not advocating changing around Gordon's or Rivers' minutes much. I just think placement and who they play with might be worth tinkering with if things don't change soon.

Eric Gordon puts me in a blind rage. No I can't approach anything relating to him objectively.

he'd be a 16 ppg scorer off the bench and a first or second option, whereas he may be a 12 ppg guy starting and the 4th option. i don't get why they don't start him. start rivers, EG can be first off the bench, play a minute or two with the starters, and then ryno comes in, etc. etc.

I don't know if we'd be better or worse, but I witnessed him air ball an uncontested 15 footer tonight.

I seen it with my own eyes.

False. You'd play Austin Rivers more and that extra 20 minutes he'd play result in more "EG was bad, but he wasn't this bad" moments.

He's a solid defender, and his shots aren't falling, same with ryan anderson.

If both of them were to actually hit their average, their stats would look like this:
Gordon
7/34 fg (20.6%) -> 15/34 fg (44%)
1/11 3pt (9.1%) -> 4/11 3pt (36%)
5.8ppg -> 10.5ppg on 9.3fg/g

Anderson
23/59 fg (40.0%) -> 25/59 fg (42.4%)
6/21 3pt (28.6%) -> 8/21 3pt (38.1%)
14.0 ppg -> 15.5ppg on 15.7fg/g
