Kayak duck blind building - Updated pics in OP

Polar Pop and I made some blinds for our yaks yesterday. The blind is constructed of military surplus netting with raffia zip-tied to it. We will add some different colors with camo spray paint later this week and always supplement with native vegetation. Each kayak uses two pieces of material that just rolls down the kayak. We are pretty pleased with how they turned out. Each kayak used around 8lbs of raffia for the blind.

You can also see what kind of netting we used for the base in the cuda next to the commander in that last picture. Getting pretty pumped about the season.

That's the plan. We have shot squirrels from the yaks this season so I feel comfortable shooting from the yaks. We will either wedge ourselves into some existing vegetation or just anchor out in the water as basically floating islands.

Those are badass. How hard would it be to make one that looks like a floating log? Out here on the East Coast, sinkboxes are big for hunting seaducks...where you essentially try to blend into the water. I know they aren't legal in LA, but I've always wondered if something like that would work in the middle of Bistineau or Wallace.

Would probably require more structure to the blind and a whole lot of painting. I think it could be done, but don't see the advantage to that over the floating island look for where we hunt.

Looks good. Will probably try something similar North of Houston on Lake Livingston this year.
Do you just leave a big enough space open for paddling and cover up when you get there or do you wait until on site to assemble the whole thing?
I've tried this in the past on a pirogue and everything was eventually a water logged mess.

Build a frame then go get a photo of a log and have it printed on some heavy duty vinyl/canvas at a print shop.

No mothership. The spots we hunt are small water, drop in and paddle.
The 2 pieces roll up pretty easily and arent too hard to handle.

Paddle with it on. Shouldn't be a problem. Basically just a blanket on top of the yak.
Don't think we will need the outriggers. Those yaks are very stable. As I mentioned earlier, I've shot from the cuda and don't think it'll be a problem.
No mothershipping - dragging, carting or paddling into the hunting spots.
And yeah I'll have to figure out some lanyard or cord to tie to the gun.

Is there a center slit or opening for you to get your gun up and out of? Or does the gun sit on top?

Unfortunately raffia does absorb water. I am thinking of tucking the excess of mine down inside the kayak with a little left to cover the top rails.
Cost about $75/kayak. Coco put in a bulk order for the materials, he should be able to give price breakdown.

The one on the left has about 500% more grass then you really need. I'd back off for weight and water absorbing concerns.

Hancock Fabric store just had rolls of Max4 camo on sale for 30% off. I picked up a bunch to wrap my deer stand in it. May want to use some of that for your "Log"
