I've been reading that ideal pulse pressure (difference between systolic and diastolic) is 40, and above 50 higher pulse pressure starts to be a risk factor. Does that hold true if your BP is otherwise on the low end? For example, 116/66 is well into the "ideal" range, but the pulse pressure is 50. TIA.

What if your pulse pressure is below 40?

It would be a risk factor if you had other cardiovascular issues, otherwise, I wouldn't worry. Moreover, kind of like diagnosing someone with high blood pressure, multiple measurements at different points in time are required.

You're going to make it...

In the absence of some other type of cardiovascular disease, namely those that give you "stiff" vessels, 116/66 is fine and nothing to worry about.

That BP gives you a MAP-Mean Arterial Pressure of about 83. 70-110ish is normal. More important than pulse pressure
Also, depends on age--for anyone 60 and over, there are higher "norms" than for those under 60
Your BP is excellent
Hope that helps

Pulse pressure is really not that important.

My BP has been in the 140/100 range the last couple times my p-doc has taken it

He blames it on lack of sleep. Is that true? Am I gonna die?

Guessing the damage that bp is doing now will become manifest itself down the road.

Nope. If it were my weight, don't you think he'd tell me I need to lose a few pounds? As opposed to telling me I need to sleep more than 3-4 hours a night

Everything I've read says diastolic pressure doesn't really matter
