@WojYahooNBA: Minnesota’s Ricky Rubio has reached agreement on a four-year, $55 million-plus contract extension, a league source tells Yahoo Sports.

1 of the oddest players in the NBA. Look at that stat line from last year.

9.5ppg, 8.6assists, 4.2rebs, 2.3steals. He doesn't score, but he does a lot of different things.

He's unique, that's for sure.

Great defender, passer, and good vision but he is one of the worst shooters in the NBA. It's crazy how many layups he misses

Yep. If he could just cut down on the dumb shots / acrobatic lay up attempts he would be so much better. If he could score like 13-15ppg and be at like 44%, and be that crafty player with the ball with crazy vision, handles, and anticipation on D he would make a much bigger impact than he does now. IMO it's the little things with Rubio that give him the biggest problems.

I think he's like a Point Guard version of Noah... Not a great scorer, but brings a lot of different things to the table and can impact a game without scoring.

As a Timberwolves fan, I'm of two minds with this. I'm pissed and happy at the same time.

1) He's never going to be a franchise type player. He'll be a serviceable starting PG, and will be able to facilitate a certain style of offense, beyond his athletic limitations. I don't worry about an injury based decline of his athleticism, because he's already had a major injury, and didn't have a ton to lose.

2) This contract would be indefensible under the old CBA; even under the current one, it is only defensible because the cap is going to warp the idea of what a $10-15 million dollar player is, as it hits a period of rapid growth.

3) Part of the reason we rubbed Kevin Love the wrong way, was our unwillingness to dedicate that 5th year to him, as a True Franchise guy; ownership and management decided to keep that in the pocket for Rubio-- and ended up giving Rubio a 4 year deal as well, meaning they could have used the 5 year Designated Player provision on Love.

This is why it is hard to be a Timberwolves fan; even when you get it right, its because you screwed something else up in an epic fashion.

I remember growing up seeing instructional videos on how to dribble featuring a 14 yr old Ricky Rubio.

I thought it was a joke when our AAU coach showed us

Been pulling for him though

No he isn't. He gambles on plays hence the steals numbers. He is a very average on ball defender.
