The BCS said 2 teams is the right number.
Year 1 of the CFP says 4 teams.
It's going to expand; just look at the NCAA Basketball tournament.
12 teams feels like the right number.
LSU could play its way in if it were 12 teams.

Here is what the bracket would look like right now if it was expanded to 12 teams:

Why CFP should be 12 teams.

Go ahead and schedule that out including the current schedule and conference championships including venues and travel plans for the fans.

8 teams

5 Power conference champions get automatic bid.

3 at large bids.

Shorten regular season by 1 game and mandate a 9 game conference schedule

That would take away basically any chance for high profile OOC games

I don't care. I'd rather watch more SEC games anyway.

When is it slated to be expanded to 8 teams? After this year or next?

Well SEC isn't the only conference in the NCAA now is it?

wtf

Why have 'byes'? That's just dumb.

That's about the only thing about playoffs I hate more than 'at-large' teams.

8 teams would be perfect.

This is the one and only correct answer.

I hate the idea of automatic bids because of weak conferences. top 6 teams, 1 & 2 get first round bye

I personally prefer that but this is about money. The only reason we have a playoff now is because of 1/9 IMO. People are sick of the SEC. This way no conference can bitch and the best conference would still get 2 or even 3 teams in.

The playoffs wouldn't be high profile enough for you?

Having automatic bids would at least debunk the people claiming bias. They would get to watch their conference lose every year and have no argument to get the at-large bids. I wouldn't be mad either way though.

I am for conference champions having automatic bids and 3 at large. The sec plays each other all year and has the conf champ game. Do we really want Miss St auburn and ole miss playing out the sec west all over again in the playoff? The conferences would be like divisions in the NFL, if you have another great team the at large is like the wildcard.

Imagine if the NFL just picked who they think were the best teams lol. Only brings controversy and division among areas of the country

Needs to be at least 8. You gotta reward those teams playing best at the end of the year since that's what it should be all about.
