This article was written by Derryck Green of Project 21. It was posted on Dennis Prager's website. Green, IMO, does a good job presenting the conservative POV on topics like Affirmative Action and Voter ID.

quote:

Let's look at another issue where this contrast between conservatives and those who accuse them of being racist is even more starkly drawn -- Voter ID.

Conservatives say that America should require that every voter present an ID when he or she votes, just as European countries do in order to help keep their elections honest. Are all these democracies racist? Of course not. Yet, the accusers say that conservatives who support Voter ID are racist.

Why do they say this? Because, they argue, it's really a ruse to prevent blacks and minorities from voting, since many of them just aren't capable of acquiring an ID.

Can you get more condescending than that?

Let's be real. You need an ID to drive, to fly, to buy a beer, even to purchase some cold medicines. Whites can do it, but blacks can't? Tell me who the racists are again?

One more example: it's conservatives who push for school vouchers, which would allow all parents, not just wealthy ones, to choose their children's school. It's the other side that doesn't trust minority parents to select an appropriate school for their children. Why aren't the people who compel black children to stay in terrible schools the racists?

At some point, maybe you'll start asking yourself, like I did: Who's really obsessed with race? And whose policies really hurt blacks and minorities?

Maybe it's not who you think it is.

Here's a follow-up article to the OP, also written by Derryck Green. The man pulls no punches in this article.

Which party is in power due to their convincing their most loyal voters that the other party is only trying to set them back 200 yrs?

Game over.

Derryck Green answers that question in this article.

Because conservatives ideologically support tradition over change, I think they are probably guilty of more racism, only because our ancestors were racist, and so were the traditions they formed.

Liberals are racist policy wise, though.

Conservatism is anti-racist if you go by the actual definition of racism. Conservatism calls for equal treatment under the law.

Progressivism by the very nature of its core ideology is racist. Progressivism calls for UNequal treatment under the law.

By that logic conservatives oppose the automobile, antibiotics, air travel, and indoor plumbing.

Both and let's make generalizations:

Conservatives - Still living in the past with old school lily white privileges

Liberals - Patronizing minorities that only they (The liberals) know whats good for them

I don't know. I don't know what "race-baiting" is.

Both sides are racist. Their racism just manifests itself in different ways.

This is just a presumption of character with no proof

This is actual policy

That's the difference. Conservatives are stereotypically perceived as racist whether it's true or not. Liberals let you know through policy

I'm not reading all that. I know what is going on. They are both racists and they use minority populations for their own gain.

It has been going on forever. Minorities are getting sick of it and are getting wise to the Democrats. But, why go Republican? They do the same thing.

How did we end up with a country where the 2 parties do not represent ANYONE except some narrow special interests and money groups?

We literally have like 280-300 million people in this country of all races and backgrounds who are not being adequately represented by EITHER party. It is shocking, actually.

Can we at least agree on a clear definition of racism before we start this debate?

Actual definition of racism: the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

Progressive definition of racism: the perception, rightly or wrongly, that one does not like or support the favoritism of a dark skinned minority over obviously privileged, primarily Caucasian and/or to a lesser degree Jewish or Asian peoples

I'm among that number. My loathing for the Republicans is exceeded only by my even-greater-loathing for the Democrats. They're both reprehensible.
