Injuries happen, and you do realize that Carolina's defenders were also playing on a short week and most of them played more snaps on Sunday then Ingram did, so I don't get this excuse.

Ingram is a good back, and has shown flashes, but he's not top 10 in the league except to some delusional fanboys. He's a legit starter for this team though.

4.9 YPC on the season

In the 4 games outside of the GB game he's averaging 4 ypc. When you only play in 5 games, your stats can easily be inflated by good or bad games.

Unless the saints are willing to pay stupid money, Ingram is gone. And the Saints aren't going to pay top dollar for a running back under Payton... Ever.

We paid top dollar for Ingram and it was a terrible investment. Lesson learned the hard way.

So the pounding DL and LBers take isn't equivalent? Are you seriously arguing that? While it isn't the same type of wearing down it is just as effective, and is exactly why most Thursday Night games are crapfests.

True but he's injury prone. Hell, he already got hurt once this season and then got hurt again last night. Can't have an injury prone RB making top dollar like that unless he's worth the risk like Adrian Peterson. Ingram is no AP...

I think him getting the same salary now would be a fair offer. He's obviously going to ask more in which case the Saints will probably be okay with him leaving. I just hope we don't pick another 1st round RB. They're a dime a dozen in the NFL these days and you can get productive 1st round RBs late in the draft easily. They just don't have value anymore...especially in our system where the load will be shared. Makes a high pick make less sense.

There is a reason why most RBs only last til their late 20s. Then, you see run stopping DTs play into their 30s. You also see LBs play into their 30s

Oh wait, we have one of those, meet Brodrick Bunkley, 31 years old.

You want to cherry pick games, but you take the highest outlier without removing the lowest outlier. That isn't how looking at stats work.
54 carries
243 yards
4.5 ypc

Right where I want a lead RB.

No doubt

I agree with pretty much your entire post

I think he's probably with resigning if it's under $4 million

in an era where there are no more Barry Sanders and speed/talent can be found every round of the draft.

Should have used that pick on a guy with some size at Lber.

He didn't show much production before this season. It makes you question if he's only playing in a contract year and it also makes you question his character. Does this mean much? Not necessarily it could just be that the light came on finally.

That's not a fact.

while ingram is dragging his nuts on the naysayers

The only thing he is dragging his nuts on you & some willing Gumps, along with the worst rushing defenses in the league:

ATL 9th worst rushing defense: 60 yards 4.6 avg
CLE 3rd worst rushing defense: 83 yards 7.5 avg
GrB THE worst rushing defense: 172 yards 7.2 avg
CAR 6th worst rushing defense: 100 yards 3.3 avg

When he faced the 2nd BEST rushing defense, Detroit, he got 16 yards on 10 carries for a 1.6 avg. If he had been the feature back and gotten 30 carries like he did in CAR, he could have had 48 yards! (You can commence jizzing!)

The other three games, he was unsurprisingly injured. His inflated numbers compel me to think me he'll ask for more than he's worth after the season, but thankfully, Loomis is not a dimwit.

Good news is, while we still have him, there are only two teams that Ingram is left to face that has a Top Ten rushing defense. The other 6 are currently mediocre to bad against the rush, so barring injury or a hangnail, there are at least 6 more weeks for you and some Gump stat-whores to have a circle jerk over Ingram.

But more importantly, the Saints are winning and, regardless of the competition, Ingram's been fun to watch this year. He's doing it against teams he should do it against which is good. (Game Style Note: I much prefer to see a RB rush for 250 yards instead of a QB pass for 500.)

However, if we are talking re-signing Ingram for Top 10-Top 5 RB money, wake me up when he rushes for 100 against SF or Balt as a feature back then I might join the "Pay the man!" crowd.

and every analyst on NFL Network Radio, NFL network, Mad dog radio, etc. is praising ingram's performance

sometimes, when you understand the different variables at play, and you see the chains moving, you don't give a frick about a 3.3 YPC
