Toyota and Nissan have diesel versions of their 1/2ton pickups down here in the Caribbean. Why don't they have those at home?

ETA: actually meant this for the OT. Whoops my bad. Admins can you move?

Do you EPA brah? Diesels are very difficult to pass the ever changing EPA emissions standards. One the larger ones, the EGR additions are killing the longevity of the engines, one of the biggest selling points of a diesel. Also, due to the EPA and their BS, diesel fuel, which is a byproduct of gasoline production from crude has to be refined much more strenuously now to again, pass EPA standards to the point where it's now more expensive than gas.

I bought my first diesel pickup in 1997 and fuel was about $.60/gal cheaper than gas, now it's about .$60 higher.

Also, in my ventures in Asia several years back, I saw a little 3cyl diesel passenger car made by Ford that got over 60 MPG. Ask yourself why it's not sold here.

EPA has killed the advantages of a diesel, especially so on small vehicles.

Rented a toyota hilux last weekend to help move something. It was awesome. It gets about 28mpg.

actually not true. I read an article that if you drive more than 10,000miles/yr the clean diesel is more bang for your buck. LINK

You guys heard of this stuff?

All new big trucks have a separate tank for this stuff. Just something else to screw up on the road. Coming soon to your VW TDI.

You got more details on this. It seems weird because the DEF fluid is injected into the exhaust. How would that affect the engine's longevity?

Close. You pay ~$3/gallon for purified piss you pour in a separate tank.

Chrysler has one out now and it's very nice. Go test drive one. It's a V6 diesel used in their Ram trucks and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

GMC, Nissan, and Chevrolet are going to probably have one within the next couple of years. I think the GM brands already have diesel compact cars and mid sized trucks on the market now.

A 2.8L Duramax four for the Colorado and Canyon is coming here for 2016 model year. The Cruze 2.0 TD is out now as a Jetta TDI competitor.

Nissan has been toying around with a Cummins-powered next-gen Frontier but they're hesitant on bringing it to market.
