cash prizes for voting

OK, the promotion in Chicago is you can win a prize in the 5th ward if you vote. But you have to prove you voted. So, you have to show your 'voter receipt' to be in the drawing for the prize.

I don't get a receipt when I vote. Why do voter receipts exist?

Well, I've never gotten one of those. And it seems easy to counterfeit if you want to enter for the prize 100 times without actually voting.

I believe some voting machines will print out a receipt showing you how your votes were cast so you can contest them if there is a problem.

yes I would think republicans would be fore this, since of the calibration errors they have been trumpeting.

I would be okay with a papertrail, but the ugly fact of the matter is elections are so contentious nowdays (dimocratix), there would be routine calls for recounts, which would essentially mean we would be right back to counting slips of paper in a shoebox. And that offers up a whole 'nother opportunity for fraud of a different stripe.

So, are you in favor of the lottery as described in my link?

A reciept that has your name and a time stamp of when you voted.

I also get a cool "I Voted" sticker.

I got a slip of paper with my "code" number on it, but I'm pissed b/c I didn't win a prize!

Not a good idea. Most jurisdictions will not do this because it makes it too easy to sell your vote.
