You're wrong. They do give a shite but are smart enough to know how you do and don't spread the disease. Force quarantining people like her is based in fear and panic.

Disagree. That doctor in NYC had 0 symptoms when he landed. Everyone returning from that shithole should be quarantined.

So you think this woman has the know how to go back to Maine, where there are no special isolation units available to accommodate Ebola carriers, and live life and receive treatment while not spreading the disease in the instance she does have it?

However, you've already had two instances where (Dallas guy) and the current doc in New York who have both lied to authorities. Then you had the health adviser for NBC lying about her self imposed quarantine.

I'd rather error far on the side of caution than have a defiant nurse running around a city of 9 million in the United States. Our gov't has hardly been consistent or provided a reliable communication strategy of containment. Good for NY and NJ at least trying to do the right thing to protect the public health.

The worst for her would be boredom and cabin fever for 21 days. However, the alternative could be pretty terrible for a city like New York.

You can test negative and still end up with Ebola in the 21 day period.

The NJ quarantine was in a tent with a portolet and no shower. I would sue too if that were my accommodations.

I don't think people coming over should be fully quarantined, but their contact with other people, especially their access to public places should be extremely limited.

With that said, she is still a major count.

That is an opinion piece based on the idea that the best way to control ebola is stopping it at the source. They think quarantine will hurt efforts to do that.

Well thats, like, their opinion man. And protecting 300 million Americans is more important to me than protecting West Africans.

And yes, she comes off as a narcissistic count.

Would be easier to sympathize if she was humble and looked like Nina Pham.

I can guarantee you that Maine has the facilities adequate enough to treat her if she turns up positive. Do you realize how many people have been going over there for months and returning back home to the US without being forced to quarantine and haven't infected anyone?

Cosmo. I thought you were smart. You really don't agree that in order to stop the possibility of the spread of Ebola in the US you have to contain it in Africa? Really?

I don't see how these two are related. No one is saying we must quarantine and NOT continue to contain it in Africa. One is not contingent on the other.

Sure I think we should try to control it. But epidemics run a natural course. This has been going on for 50 years in West Africa. It will sputter out. The idea that billions and billions need to be dumped on controlling it is silly to me.

The broader solution is changing the socioeconomic structure in place in the West Africa shithole which allows epidemics like this to happen. But that will take a century, minimum.

I'm sure she comes off hella annoying. I'm just stating that I disagree with what the governors are trying to do.

It's a shame everyone is so eager to let ignorance and fear trump science, rational thinking, and even basic human decency.

People going to Africa to try to stop the spread of this disease are doing the world a favor. They shouldn't be punished and locked up when they aren't symptomatic, aren't contagious, and pose no threat to society at all. All that will accomplish is encouraging people to lie about where they've been and what they've done.

But, by all means, keep getting your medical advice from Chris Christie and Bill O'Reilly.

There are only four in the country. And none of those are in Maine.

ETA: There are 20. None in Maine.
