Hate the stock Steelies. I don't care if you powder coat them or whatever, they ain't going back on.
I also am not a fan of those douchebag XD black wheels.
I do want some pretty aggressive AT tires though. Don't need any Nitto Mud grapplers or anything like that.
I'm thinking either going with some aftermarket 16" wheels like
LINK Really cheap and decent looking. Can get several backspacing options as well.

Or going to an 18" FJ Cruiser wheel like

Help me out here OT.

I like your truck, but I didn't like the wheels you had on it. Those in the pic look way better, IMO.

Your truck is too nice for those in the link.

Get those chrome ones that still spin when you stop.

I'm a fan of the OEM+ look. So something aggressive from Toyota like that.

Some

Mine is a Pre Runner so those wheels won't work on my truck.

Go with the Toyota wheels, they look great. I am looking at the new BF Goodrich A/T KO2.

Wow...you'd hate the wheels my relatives up in PA use to mount their snow shoes on their Tahoe. They look like black steelies.

My advice: If it's a pavement runner, get comfortable, quiet rubber that has the aggressive look you want. Make sure it has good wet pavement traction.

I put a lot of miles on my Silverado and I noticed that the more aggressive treads make more noise and increase fatigue on long trips. Besides, 4x4 with Good Year Wrangler AT's were more than adequate for 90% of everything I encountered off pavement, and had decent wet pavement traction to boot. Ask anyone that puts a lot of hard miles on their rigs.....you have to balance a good off road tread with noise and wet pavement traction.

The Tacoma TRD wheels (I think they are only 16" or 17") look good and rugged IMO. You can get a quiet all terrain tire that looks agressive....it would give you a good look without the drawbacks of the pavement roar. The smoke grey Toyota FJ wheels in your picture look good to me as well. The Tundra has a good looking wheel it you want a Toyota rim but I think they are only 5 lug for some reason.

I agree that the black out rims are too trendy. That, along with those LED light bars are two trends that I hope go away soon.

I love my Tundra's stock split fives, but the finish is flaking badly... I'm mounting my next set of tires on Stealth Custom Series' F5s... which look really good on Tacomas. SCS isn't the cheapest (F5s are $145 per), but they have some classic designs.

ETA: Also take a look at the Stealth 6s:

Meh....You don't want much more than 17" for an off road wheel anyways unless there's room for a lot more rubber.

The FJ wheels look good, and would give it sort of a stock look which I like.

MJ2, no love for the Tacoma's 16" TRD off road wheels? I guess I must be one of the few people that like them.
