Every ear it's got worse and worse. You can't even get in and out of the neighborhood because of all the undesirables parking all over the place in the front of the neighborhood.
Hired security should be an option paid for by the HOA IMO.

kids should have to show their papers (proof of Neighborhood residence) if they want candy or face deportation (back to their real hood)

Our HOA does. One Ascension Parish deputy at each entrance.

This is why you keep two baskets of candy: one basket of good chocolates for the neighborhood kids and another basket of peppermints for the travelers.

we voted in "no-refusal checkpoints" this year. sherifs can draw blood if the kids are non compliant.

My community borders a local migrant village. They show up by the hundreds each year. Many don't have costumes and don't even make much of an effort to dress up.

I honestly don't mind the kids coming through. I'm happy to see them with a smile on their face.

What I find baffling is the adults who come through demanding candy. In addition, if the lights are off it means we're in bed. Don't ring my doorbell at midnight looking for a handout.

The final straw was like 5 years ago when there were a bunch of break-ins of vehicles.

A bunch were caught and were all from the same group that had "migrated." 15-19 year olds, no costumes, pillowcases for bags.

Two days later we got a letter from HOA asking if were were in favor of hiring deputies to alleviate the problem.

Every year since. . .

Don't take it out on the kids, it isn't their faults. The adult though...

See, the migrants from last year provide the candy for this year.

I don't live in an HOA neighborhood (thank god) but I do get a good amount of non neighborhood kids, mostly because their parents drop them off at the church right behind my house

my general rule is this:

neighborhood kids get to pick the candy and how ever many they want, non kids get handed one piece of candy

call me an a-hole, I don't care

You discouraging this sort of behavior isn't you being an a-hole.
How damn hard would it be to put a little effort into creating a decent trick or treating experience in their own neighborhoods? Instead, 'hey let's load up the kids and go mooch off of someone else's neighborhood"

This is why I always get a hotel room on Halloween night. As a bachelor I have no obligation to pass out candy.

The neighborhood I live in is so unwelcoming we surely won't get anyone venturing in. There are only a few houses here; it's on a dark cul-de-sac with no street lights; no one keeps outside lights on; there is no sidewalk and all front doors are far removed from the street.

Happy Halloween!

We went to trick or treat in my sisters neighborhood two years ago so my daughter could go with her cousins. There was a large cul de sac where vacant lots were sitting waiting to be built upon. There were at least a dozen cars parked in the grass and about 10 more in the street. 5-6 kids in each old Corolla or Impala. There were more outsiders than residents in the streets.
