Sounds like if your current company increases your pay, even if it's just 5%-10%, you would be hard pressed to take the other offer. Good luck.

Surprised by what. There are only two options here.

i assure you i am...we are a three man team with a very intricate system that we maintain...one of the other three has submitted his retirement package already and plans to leave at the end of this fiscal and the other is a jack knuckle with shite customer service skills and poor time management...they need me...they are just getting me for cheap cause they think its too sweet for me to leave...

No offense, but your evaluation of your importance is negligible. Do you know anyone that works at company B? Their opinion alone might be enough to sway your decision.

This is why we need picks of the wife. Maybe they are keeping you because she is hotter than the other two and livens up the Christmas Party.

You got to think of all angles here.

Yes. Someone that works there already might tell you to run for the hills. On the other hand, you might be more inclined to take the offer if they have company crawfish boils every weekend.

It's like the Monty Hall Problem, just like I said and you guys didn't listen.

The Doors are Companies.

One door is a Goat.

Company A is your job. Company B is your prospective job. Company C is another job.

Get it?

Take the job and sell it the truck. Do not stay at a job you can't afford to keep because it's close to your house. That's the kind of thinking that makes broke people have kids and get a mortgage they're stuck in before they've got their stuff straight.

This might need to another job for more money. And with any luck you might be able to afford your kids one day.

Every recruiter does. The key question would be why are they looking to hire you. New position due to growth? Natural attrition in the position? Key indicators of what you may be in line for. I myself could not pull the trigger on a new job if my current job was 10 minutes from home. But that's just me.

Tell your current job you have another offer and you need a 20% raise.

I took a $18,000 (a yr) raise and changed jobs five years ago after putting 8 good years with prior company.

New company had a massive lay off 18 months in and guess who got it.

I still haven't recovered back to my original salary, so watch it.

I've done the commute too in DFW, it sucks. You will wear out your vehicle, pay a ton in gas tolls etc Missed half of my son's baseball season one year and was stressed as a MoFo

he is a sales guy...not a recruiter...i would say that the position is due to growth...they are garnering contracts at a faster rate than they can sustain with the personnel they have...my field is not flooded and good knowledgable guys with experience are rare...i do not really want to leave a job that i am close to either but trying to figure out if the juice will be worth the squeeze...

Pretty extreme case, but good advise. I would not tell your current employer about the 20% increase in potential pay if you don't think they'll match it. They will probably just back away from the table and tell you good luck. If you think they would match 10%, then tell them that number.
