ok so here is my situation...i was approached by a representative from another company in my field about whether i was looking for a new job or whatever...he saw my LinkedIn profile...so i listened to what he had to say...turns out it would be a promotion of sorts...here is the kicker...the commute is alot worse than my commute now...which is actually really nice as i am 10 minutes away from my office now...i also have a flexible schedule now...what does the OT think percentage of pay jump should be...im thinking about asking 15-16% more than my pay now...i would be going from a Tech to a Project Manager...what says the OT?

Tech to PM sounds like more than a "promotion of sorts". Unless I was really unhappy with the current situation, I don't think less than 20% would cause me to change. You have to look at the value of your time for the commute and the work hours also.

I make an 1 hr commute everyday it's not bad. You will most likely have to make a few schedule adjustments as far as life goes.

The gas is huge and so is the mileage you put on your vehicle.

My truck is 2 years old with 60k miles. Mostly from the commute.

that is what i was thinking originally but my evil plan is to actually see if I can get an offer at 15-16% and then use that as a bargaining chip for a raise...i have been asking and the company I am with doesnt want to cough it up...but they know i am in a comfort zone where i am at...but i need more $ and recently finished my degree and want to put it to work and get paid for it..if they balk, then i leave for the raise

what they call a PM is not really a full blown PM i dont think..hell i dont know..he said i would be doing procurements, designing systems to customer requirements and supervising a team so...i will find out more in the interview I guess...but that is what the guy told me they were hiring for and what I should apply for...he told me today that the operations manager would be in contact soon...

Is your wife able to drop what she's doing and pick-up the kids and run other errands if needed. My wife is not, that's why I'm about to take a job closer to home.
