Nina Pham to go home

Pettifogger reported this first in the NYC Ebola thread but I thought it deserved its own.

:nana:

Nina Pham, the Dallas nurse infected with Ebola as she treated dying patient Thomas Eric Duncan, is free of the virus, National Institutes of Health officials said Friday.

It's looking like the usual high kill rate of Ebola is a function of shitty African medical care.

Not that it isn't dangerous or frick your shite up, but we're batting .1000 with early detection cases.

Great news.

Perhaps more importantly for the populace at large, the number of people infected by her appears to currently be 0.

Look, at you, bailing water on a sinking ship. Obama's lucky to have supporters like you who are so wholeheartedly devoted to him as a person that they really don't care about policy or successes of the country.

I mean, I think it is weird for a grown man to be obsessed with an obviously flawed President without any leadership ability, but still, I bet you're an asset to him.

Borderline miraculous that Pham and Vinson survived.

Nope. Radical Islam seems to spread faster and an incubation period / quarantine for young people being exposed to it seems justified.

Sarcasm? I'm very happy about it, but I (and a couple of med professionals I spoke to when the news broke) all predicted they'd both survive.

I would guess that in scenarios like theirs, we'll see survival rates considerably higher than 50%.

We're not out of the woods yet - yes, it appears that monitoring, early detection and most importantly, early intervention, are big keys - now that we have the examples of the 2 evacuees, Pham and Vinson.

But those are examples of 100% effort devoted to those cases. What happens if, God forbid, we're handling 15? Or 100? Or 2500? Even if we slow down the infection rate (we appear to have done so - the new case is another import, albeit a U.S. citizen) - the death rate is almost certain to climb if we continue to get new infections.
