When I was 10, my basketball team beat this ragtag team of mediocre kids 76-6. My dad was the coach at the time. Both teams went out and ate pizza together after. No one mentioned the score and it didn't really matter at that point.

Whenever I read this type of stuff I always try to think "What if my kid was on the other end of this?" A) My kid would have ripped the ball out of this little punks hands and run it back the other way for a TD B) I don't think he or I would be offended in any way by getting our asses kicked more. I mean it's worse to have the mercy knee than it is to get scored more on. There's no life lesson that can come from implemented mediocrity.

We had a rule like this in 1994 or 95. I think it was 30 or 36 points.
Once that was reached your team didn't go on offense. If the other team failed on their drive to score, they'd just jeep getting it at the 20 until they did. Then you could play O again.
South MS pussification

The other team should be fined for raising a bunch of pussies

The disconnect is with people thinking there is something "wrong" with getting your arse kicked.

If a team is getting beat 39-0, the league should take a harder look at how they divide up the kids among the different teams.

Instances like this offer great teaching moments for kids on both teams. Coaches on the winning team should be coaching their team up on how to win with grace. Coaches on the loosing team should be coaching their team to never give up. Keep fighting. The first kid to score on that team would probably feel like a god.

This is really pathetic. I never knew sports were about making you feel good.

I hate stories like this
I remember when I played baseball when I was 10 years old we beat a team 31-6 in 4 innings. They didn't have any mercy rule or run rule or anything, just a 90 minute timed game. That was the score after 90 minutes. No feelings were hurt. And a couple weeks later this same team beat us 17-2 because they were able to throw their better pitcher that game.
Crap when I was 12 years old our baseball team went winless all year and yet it was one of the most fun baseball seasons I remember having

Man, ball skills on Defense, that guy needs a fine....

i get it...it's a parable.
the coach is mark richt and he's lost control of his players

If my team ever got down by 32 I would tell my QB to run and kneel in our own end zone so there would be a safety and the other coach would have to pay $500!
No shite. What the frick kind of league rule is that.
Posted on 10/24/14 at 10:41 am to FenrirTheBeard
what the fricking frick? Those parents that made that rule should have to pay that fine because it is bad and they should feel bad.
Posted on 10/24/14 at 10:49 am to FenrirTheBeard
The real disconnect is the morons that make these rules don't realize that kids DON'T GIVE A frick whether they lose by 32 or 39. Losing is losing, winning is winning, and they'll all go home and play Xbox together all night and not give a shite.

The idea that running up the score is something from which we need to protect our children is insanely insulting to the children themselves. I've had the score run up on me, and I've helped run up the score in other teams, and neither situation ever had a lasting effect on me or anyone.
