Yep. I went in 2011. I stayed at Hotel Wailea in Wailea. Thats the best area. My wife and I drove the road to Hana and went to the Black Sand beach. We also drove up mount Haleakala (or however you spell it). That was pretty scary. Overall awesome trip.

Maui is paradise. I don't understand why every rich person doesn't retire there

YES. very worth it if you can spend more than a week. you don't want to be in a rush there. I did the following:

3 separate snorkeling expeditions and whale watching

played 4 rounds of golf

Mama's Fish house

road to Hana.

sunrise and hiking at Mt. Haleakala.

Luaua att he Grand Wilea

Surfing lessons (highly recommended

Beach time

Sunset dinner cruise on sailboat.

stayed in three different parts of the Island (Wilea; North Shore, Kapalua)

Yep, tourists everywhere. Every other car on the road is either a convertible mustang or a jeep wrangler. That's all the rental car companies carry.

I hated this...it's very windy and you have to pay attention to the road or you will crash.

Maui is great, but I prefer Kauai.

If you do go to Maui, eat at the Paia Fish Market and get banana bread from the first little roadside stand on the road to Hana.

Is Hawaii worth it, or Maui vs. the other Hawaiian islands? I'd say Hawaii is worth at least 1 visit. Yeah it's a longer flight and more expensive than the Carribean, but it's an island paradise that's both a US state and quite exotic. That's a pretty unique combination.

If this is about which Island to go to, it really depends on what you want to get out of it. Some people would prioritize the Pearl Harbor memorial stuff on Oahu, others would want to see the active Volcano on the Big Island. When I went I did half a week on Maui and half a week on the Big Island. Just take a short plane ride between the Islands.

You think the road to Hana is bad, try going up Mt. Haleakala. I drove up that mountain going 10 mph. It has no rails and people were driving 35mph up that mountain.

I played the tournament course at Kaanapali and the Plantation course at Kapalua and they were 2 of the best courses I have ever played.
