How old were you when your parents first allowed you to start cursing/cussing?

Some parents are extremely old-fashioned and strict about the type of language their children use. Meanwhile, there are others that just don't seem to give a damn.

Until I was at least 15, my mother wouldn't allow me to say 'crap' or 'that sucks' without expressing her disapproval of such words and phrases.

On the other hand, my dad allowed me to say essentially anything short of 'frick' as long as I wasn't directly disrespecting him.

Were your parents lenient or very strict when it came to your use of expletives?

I have never cursed in front of my parents. I'm 30.

I still don't say "crap" in front of my mom

I'm almost 40 and still don't curse in front of my parents out of respect. At 15, I would have got knocked silly though by either of them.

Scruffy is 26 and they still correct him.

Not a fan of cursing in front of his parents though.

I didn't curse in front of my dad until about college or even later.

I will never curse around my mom or grandmaw as long as I live.

My father used language and my mother would occasionally drop a "shite" or "dammit" when she'd drop something in the kitchen, so my parents didn't ban it but I avoided cussing around them until I got older.

I had free speech in the house once I hit jr. High, only cuz they trusted me to censor myself in public.
out of respect to them, I refrained from f-bombs in their presence, however.

Well, I may have let one slip on accident once in a while, but I always apologize.

You're asking the wrong question. That question should be something more along the lines of "When did you grow up and not feel the need to curse?" or "When did you fully appreciate that you should respect your parents and have no desire to curse in front of them?"

My parents sent me to an all boys high school. Nothing they could do after that. I've straightened up since. Don't like to cuss in front of them, my mom especially.

Used to curse a bunch when I was a kid. One time I said "Gosh Darn" and my father called me a fagot and didn't speak to me for weeks.

Cursing is a sign of strength and rugged individualism, why would you want to stop that in a child?
