Here is a map of the distribution of Utisol (Red Dirt) in the United States...Clearly it isn't just limited to a bunch of party bands that made it big out of Stillwater, OK...also note that the blue is aquutls, which is in NC, where American AQUarium is from. Coincidence, I think not

is there any correlation between the areas with red dirt and the lack of wealth and intelligence that is so profound in the heart of that area?

I thought you guys were trolling, but do you really not know what "red dirt" is? honest question...

Randy Rogers Band
Reckless Kelly
Charlie Robison
Eli Young Band
Jason Boland & The Stragglers
Cross Canadian Ragweed
Wade Bowen
Jack Ingram

stuff like that... AA is indie alt country from north carolina... they go to texas and do well there with the texas country crowd for a month and return.

which is why tRogz will never be Red Dirt.

thankfully.. "tRogz" were influenced by the stones/beatles/smashing pumpkins/sonic youth etc...

lucero's "that much further west" is a great example of this... more indie type music mixed with alt country

one example:

It even goes deeper to divide the bands that were from Oklahoma or cut their teeth in Stillwater and those who started in Texas and mostly hung around Austin, Lubbock, Waco etc..

Red dirt...

From Raleigh, NC

Cecil clay, a fertile red clay soil containing decomposed granite and quartz, is an important type of Cecil soil found south of the Raleigh Durham area. Soil Types of North Carolina

American Aquarium dominates the little-known Cecil Soil genre ..

I didn't care much for them based on their recordings. However, after attending a show, I enjoyed the recordings much more. I'd go out of my way to see them.

Looks like I'll catch RRB at Georgia Theatre next month. No hope to ever see DRB.

Working on Larry Joe Taylor fest in the Spring ... gotta go before I get to old.
