My 8 year old wants an eReader from the fat man with the white beard. ive been looking at the Nook Glowlight and the kindle paper white. Does anyone have any experience with any of these? Which one would be better for age appropriate material available in the store?

She has an iPad mini so not looking for readers with games and so on. I know I can get reading apps for the mini and iBooks, but this is all she is really asking for. She loves to read so I don't mind buying her another device dedicated just for that.

Do you already have Amazon Prime? They have a free lending library where you can check out books on a Kindle. I'm not sure how kid appropriate the selections are, but one of the things they always tout there are the Harry Potter books. LINK

Long-time kindle user here and I recommend the paper white highly. Amazon pretty much dominates the market now, not only with the books they sell but also their support for the Overdrive lending system used by many libraries. And they'll be around to support it for a long time, not something you can say about the other e-readers.

I have the paper white and it is fantastic. You get amazon backed instead of Barnes and Noble also.

You might want to make it happen today. Probably about once or twice a month I'll see free book specials on deal sites. 70% of the time it's worthless garbage but 30% it's something you might actually want to read. Here's a link to some free kids books on MineCraft. LINK Just click to buy to add it to your library and you can download it to the Kindle you buy once you get it.

If you or a family member are eligible for an East Baton Rouge parish library card, you can get almost anything in e-book format, including best sellers, downloaded direct to your Kindle. Here's a LINK to the collection. Say what you will about Baton Rouge, but I'd put our library system up against any in the country.
