My dad and his buddy used to secure hunts in kansas with pecans and sausage, but those lands have since been leased. Cool to see that the drive up to a farmer's house hunting can still be done.

Did you guys see any big whitetails ?

Very few deer seen. I think only 2 bucks, one small 8 almost killed Hoss, we jumped it in the corn and it missed running him over by feet.

What about hunting deer up there ?

It is a lottery tag only, one resident said he was only drawn twice in 20 years...

...but a nonresident can enter the lottery and, if drawn, can purchase a permit for $121 for the ability to knock on farmer's doors and ask him to tell you stories about deer hunting in the area.

We took these at the antique store when looking for a big pot. Owner got drawn for a tag and found this in his garden...

Great pics. Really captures the essence of the trip. We laughed hard constantly, we hunted hard expectedly, and we all caught our buzzes sparingly and as we could. I may or may not have slipped out back a few times
I was extremely glad to get to meet the few OBers that I hadn't had the pleasure with. Great318 was an awesome dude, as well as Jim Jack Jose
And ST... boy he was...I mean one of a kind.

My dog is a Brittany/Irish setter mix and she absolutely enjoyed herself. She never really locked up on birds, but you could tell she was picking up their scent. She worked in horizontal sweeps 20 yards in front of me and really thrived in the standing corn where she flushed birds right in our faces. She was obedient in the field outside of one little episode but having her flush a big rooster in my face and me shoot it down really made the trip.

And yes motorboat I got duded up for the trip. I was trying to bring some style and pizzazz to that boring amish/Indian state.

I'm as crazy as henryetta

Gotcha. We went to Montana in 2011 for a mule deer hunt. Passed through south Dakota and saw bunch of mulies and antelope. Plus tons of pheasant. Pretty awesome up there.

I had it but didn't wear it because I knew this moment would come. Did it make hunting harder? Yes.
