quote:

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old—when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.

Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power—plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish—to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.

Solid, Fast Paced, books that are an excellent way to fill the time between Dresden Books.

My dad did. I'll ask him later what he thought of it. He might be the biggest dresdan files fan around.

He showed up at work so I asked him. He said it was "all good." He then asked the gender of the person asking and I said I didn't know and I got the dirtiest look you can imagine.

I am a male that can't believe the father of a grown child uses the phrase "all good".

Yes, I listen to the audiobooks for Dresden and ID. I wasn't a fan of the last ID book.

ETA: The audiobooks are really good since I have a hard time pronouncing some of the names in the ID books.

It's nice that he puts a pronunciation guide in the front of his books. I swear whoever came up with the celtic language was just fricking with us.

Oh its crazy. Every time I listen to a book I wonder how in the hell do you spell the names. As a side note, my wife and I are looking at Irish baby names and I recognize a ton of them from the books. She is impressed with my Celtic mythology.

I've read all of them except the most recent one. I loved the first three, wasn't really into the fourth and fifth ones but the sixth book I thought was a step back in the right direction. I started listening to the newest one on Audible but dropped it mid way because I decided to start my ASOIAF read through. I really love the guy that does the audio books though, he and James Marsden are my favorite.

It's still no where near as good as The Dresden Files though. I cried like a bitch during the Maggie scenes in Skin Games.

I think what sets Dresden apart is the rampant smartassness.

You can get the story of the reunion of child and father in many places.

Not many where you can have a huge climatic battle where the big baddie has the MacGuffin, and out of nowhere the protagonist grabs it, yells "Meep meep," and tears out of there.

I regularly draw quotes from all the time to use in day to day convos.

That was more of an introduction than a reunion. Yea it was technically a reunion but it was the first time Harry really got to interact with his daughter. It was built up over three books and really made all the crap Harry went through in Changes, Ghost Story, and Cold Days worth it all. If anything I would say the fact that even after 15 books Butcher can still hit those emotional beats and endear his characters to the readers is what sets the series apart.

His rampant smartass-y ness just enhances it.

Atticus O'Sullivan also has some high quality smart assery. Granted, Hearne is more sizzle and less steak than Butcher, but still very funny and entertaining.

I think the real comedic MVP of Iron Druid is Oberon.

Very much this. The audio books are very entertaining, but I'm not sure if I would ever just read the series.

I just finished re-reading all 14 books of the Dresden Files, and I can't wait for the next. I just love all of the pop culture references Butcher uses, and the foreshadowing. I couldn't stop laughing when Butters got a functioning lightsaber in Skin Games since he had made a sarcastic remark about one in Ghost Story.
