best answer is long blade

Meh. I'd want something like a spatha or gladius. Something good for quick slashing but more durable than a machete.

All of the people choosing firearms must be forgetting that zombies are attracted to noise.

The zombies skulls look pretty weak in TWD. I think that pretty much any fairly heavy blunt object would do the trick. Obviously, something with a handle would be preferable.

Long weapons would be good in open areas with low numbers of zombies. However, you would be screwed in a tight area or if there were more than a few of them approaching you from different directions.

I thought of the mace too. I honestly think that's the best overall weapon for a zombie apocalypse, for killing zombies at least. It's not too burdensome and won't get stuck. It would require no cleaning, no sharpening, no ammo, and if you miss the skull, you will still likely knock off the jaw.

Yay for suppressors!!! Good luck with your mace though and close quarters hand to hand combat which is the only way your weapon is effective. I'll be sitting in a deer standing 500 yards aways dropping zombies in their tracks.

A good pair of running shoes.

As the old saying goes I don't have to outrun the zombies just everyone else.

Yeah but I can go to any home depot and get a weapon for the quiet stuff, I want something for zombie horde shite

now you're getting into the good stuff

if I choose a firearm does it come with scope, silencer, etc. How many rounds? how many magazines?

ideally I'd want a backpack with spare magazines, ammo, water. Then I'd want a rifle with a scope and a silencer.

what amazes me about his genre is my first trip would be to a police armory...first fricking thing.

They should be. A shotgun blast will attract other zombies. A spiked club would be my choice. Heavy enough to make their heads explode, won't get stuck in a skull the same way an ax would, and is silent.

Something with a shitload of rounds.

A machete? Good luck. I'll try to make it quick for you.

I'll be watching from a quiet bush, eating a can of pudding, while every zombie within a 5-mile radius swarms your stand and you run out of ammo, food, or water, whichever comes first.

This.

I would want an AA-12 with a few full drums of ammo.

But in a melee situation and if the Zombies are as thin skulled as on Walking Dead, then I want a sharpened piece of five foot by 1.5" rebar.

Maybe 2". I want to be able to push back like a staff and defend, as well as poke and long reach attack.
Would also make a nice walking stick.

See I don't know that I agree there either. Think about Murphy's Law. It is going to bite you in the a$$. The spikes will get stuck in some zombies skull and you wont be able to pull it out -- or the extra energy you expend removing it after each strike. Think of it like an axe when chopping wood. About a third of the time the axe gets stuck and you have to wrench it out. Lots of wasted time and energy.

I'm think more on the line of a massive bat with super sharp barbed wire on it.

I want that too, but to make it even stronger, I'll name it and talk to it and give it personalty. It would be my constant companion.

For those saying that machete is stupid is not thinking forward and longterm. For one, carry a gun means you will run out of ammo eventually and it creates a lot of noises for zombies and other human rivals. And carrying a heavy ammo is not good since you will be mobile most of the time(looking for food, supplies, moving to new shelter).

Machete's are an effective tool to use against zombies, they are thick, and sharp, it is proven that they can slice through bone with enough power and force. It would be effective to slice through a zombie's spinal cord, or slicing through the skull. Assuming that there has been some sort of decay upon the skull, it would be a useful weapon. It is also effective for getting yourself through brush filled areas or forests. You don't want to find yourself cornered because you can't get yourself through some sharp bushes or tall grass.

I can't think of a much more effective Melee weapon than that. I'm wanting to avoid the hordes, which means using loud projectiles as a last resort. Yeah, I'd carry some around, but using a firearm in the zombie apocalypse is like unleashing a nuclear bomb. Sure it's an almost guaranteed solid kill, but what would really happen in that scenario when you alert the rest of the horde within a 500 yard radius of your location?

we're also assuming WD rules here...what if bodily fluids carries the virus...so a close melee kill can frick you (ala "the strain")

there is no way around it you need both. The long gun is the more pressing need, because if WD has taught you anything, it's that you're not going to sit quietly in that bush forever, and there will be humans trying to kill you, and they're going to be armed.

if we're talking "dawn of the dead" type zombies, you're totally fricked

or if vidoe games have taught me anything, its that a drill bucket is a very effective tool against zombies.

A machete is certainly an essential zombie apocalypse item, but I'm just concerned that it could get caught in a skull of used as a weapon.
