Mace is a solid choice.

after I run out of ammo. This
The Fiskar hand held brush axe. Super light for an easy swing, and that curve creates easy skull penetration. Just long enough to keep distance between you and the zombie, but short enough, and light enough that is isn't unwieldy and cumbersome to fight with/carry around daily. Longer the blade, the easier it is to get off balance.

Gurkha Kukri or a big arse Bowie knife.

A framing hammer. Durable as hell, light enough to swing repeatedly without tiring too quickly, heavy enough to collapse a skull.

anyone saying machete or some kind of knife is just stupid. Those are easily found anywhere.
I'm torn between a full size .45 and durable rifle, probably ak-47
Russian ak-47 for the ammo capacity, the round, and the durability

AA12 Shotgun. Its fully auto and with the drum magazine it can hole 20 or 32 shells and you can change drums quickly. 12 gauge shells should be pretty easy to come across compared to other ammo. Not to mention you could reload the shells later if you had the right supplies.

I'm thinking a handgun wouldn't be a bad choice, you can fashion a sharp object or find one very easily, but all of those instances where the zombie gets the drop on the main character and are right on their back, I'd like to be able to draw a handgun very quickly and kill it...
I guess people in ferguson can better answer this question.
