It's probably about half the size of the Libertarian wing of the conservative movement. It's not big.
Meh a throw away for Obama then.

That's why he's still being conservative.

Took years to come around on gay marriage and not by his choice.

He was for when he was a State Senator and then lied and said he was against it to get elected President. It has been pretty well documented.

He is all about government control and tramples the constitution especially on civil liberties. I can't believe his power grab in the executive office because he comes from the legislative branch.
Can't disagree with this.

There isn't a different in the parties.

Most are just too inept to see it.

Obama is definitely a liberal.

The trouble is that the republicans are liberals too. They endorse socialism and thus it becomes "conservative".

War, in the 20th century, was a democrat thing. Wilson. FDR, LBJ etc. Only the gulf war was started by a republican. The neocons have taken over foreign policy and run republican and democrat administrations alike. War--despite the author's implication--is not a long time characteristic of republicans.

Gosh I wish Barry Goldwater was still with us.

That is some interesting rewriting of history. I suggest you review WW1 and how it started. I also suggest you look at who was pushing war then, and it certainly wasn't Wilson.

He's more of a fascist. Crony capitalism, overseas adventurism, trampling of civil liberties, using social issues to divide and conquer.
And that would be different from which President before him?

After five years of sucking his arse, now he is being exposed, you want to brand him a republican. Where were you guys prior to the last election. I just don't remember any of his policies that liberals were in disagreement.
He's liberal through and through and he is alll yours.

This is an interesting twist of the "Dixiecrat vs Democrat" mantra. In the eyes of his followers he has failed on his attempts to implement his policy. Rather than saying they were wrong, they say he was not truly a Liberal/Progressive, instead he was (in fact) a Conservative.

You cannot make this stuff up.

Krugman needs to re-write his article. Not only did President Obama face stiff opposition from the Republican party, apparently he also faced it from the Democratic party as well.

I think this whole topic could be changed to Obama is a typical politician.

And we could say that Obama is definitely a politician.

And the trouble is that the republicans are politicians too.

Both sides are much more similar in what they do when they are in office and in power than whatever minor their differences are.

Bushie did many things like changes to medicare to get votes. Just like Obama is doing. The other side cries about things. It is the same thing, different verse.

I seriously believe that these guys are much more similar than most believe.

Now granted the small differences can have a major effect, but to say one is one thing or another is for the most part moot.

One can more likely say that Obama is a bad politician. But to pick one side or the other, well I just think at the end of the day you have two politicians who are much more alike than either side wants you to believe.

Seriously, Progressives have been against him for ages because of this. He's a moderate conservative.

I'd say that article nails it.

So this is how the libs jump ship. Instead of stating he's been a failure and all of his liberal policies have resulted in abject failure, you now say, "well he's really a Republican, that's why he's failing."

Why you lefties make excuses for this clown after he's proven his ineptitude is beyond me.

Quick, give me 3 policies which are supported by liberals but staunchly opposed by progressives.

He's neither liberal or conservative; being either would imply taking a stance. He like all other politicians are opportunists.
