Going to be one of, if not the best group since the final four team IMO. Is it realistic that we will be a top 2 or 3 team in the SEC and maybe a sweet 16 team this year? Looking forward to what South Of South will say about this. I know next year with Simmons coming we could be a final 4 team, but it seems we could do something special this year as well!!! Im very excited for LSU Basketball this year.

I'm pretty damn excited about this year's team. Expectations should be high. I'd say 3rd or 4th in SEC and a tournament birth is certainly reasonable. From there, it'll all be up to matchups in the tournament.

LSU basketball fans...

Let's pump those brakes a little bit.

I think top 4 is a reasonable expectation. I don't think that we're as good as UK and UF but after that who knows. It's year 3 for Johnny though. It's time to make the Big Dance.

Judging by our multiple second place finishes in these big time recruiting battles, it's imperative we make the tournament

2006 was an awesome year.. I believe that's when we made it to the final four? or was it elite 8? I remember that buzzer beater vs A&M (for what ever reason, can't find a video of it..).. and saying "Well... now we get to lose to Duke next week." and I remember sitting outside in my backyard, shooting hoops. Then my dad said "We're winning!" and I went inside because I thought he was messing with me... sure enough.. If I remember correctly, we beat them pretty bad. That was such a magical year. really got me into College basketball.

With this roster and the addition of a potentially great bench coach in Musselman, I'll be quite disappointed if we aren't dancing this year.

I agree that missing the tournament would be a pretty big letdown. There are some hurdles though. Our schedule is really poorly done. Jones is gonna have to figure out a way to create a better schedule. It is important.

It doesn't take a ton of top 25 games by any means, but it does mean getting the 150-200 RPI teams to come in to the PMAC rather than the 250-300 teams.

He's gonna have to schedule better moving forward or it will leave us very little room for error. A couple losses pre conference season, and we could be way behind on our journey to the tourney.

I expect LSU to demoralize some teams this season that won't know what just hit them after playing the mighty Tigers basketball team.

Especially with this roster turnover I wouldn't doubt this as a possibility.

Plus we play a couple pretty good teams. I'm not upset with the high profile games, it's the low profile games. As a bubble team, you cannot play bottom 50 teams. It kills your RPI and SOS.

UMASS, West Virginia, Texas Tech, and UAB are all pretty solid games. Its the Webb-Gardner, Savannah State, McNeese St, and Sam Houston St games that frusterate me.

It's nice to finally talk some basketball. Too excited about the potential of this team. I'm anxious to see how Elbert transitioned from high school to college especially after losing some weight. Jarell and Mickey are going to do big things and I can't wait to see how the offense is going to run with Gray and Hornsby up top.

12-6 in conference; 23-7 overall reg. season. This team is built to beat people up on the glass and play great interior defense. The offense will take care of itself with several future pro players on this team. Hornsby will surprise folks who don't watch his film. Gray is a pretty widely known commodity so he'll not surprise any opponents but he is a great offensive player and defensive disruptor out front. This could finally be the year that LSU takes the elusive SECT title as well. That would give them a high seed in the dance.

Would be an unbelievable season and likely a top 25 team. I'd love to be there. I am thinking that is possible, but still not likely. I'm very hopeful. Can't wait to see us play in the exhibition in a couple weeks.

It's impossible to put expectations on this team until we see Gray and Hornsby play. I would like to think these 2 are much better than Stringer/Hickey. Especially Gray, I am hoping for a Marcus Thorton season personally. His Texas tech highlights are pretty impressive for a freshman but the SEC is gonna be loaded this year IMO.

On paper, 4th place in the SEC with a 7 seed. Realistically we are still a 9-9 team until we learn to play freakin defense.

I think our defensive woes start on the perimeter and Im really confident that Gray/Hornsby can vastly improve our perimeter defensively.
