I think the SEC gets in four this year...maybe five. If we finish 4th and win at least one game in the tournament I can't see how we don't dance.

The process of getting there is what's going to be interesting. JJ has shown flashes of good in game coaching adjustments while at the same time shown that his teams can be a bit ill prepared (especially on the defensive end).

It will be a huge plus for us this year to have guards that can defend as well as score. Stringer and Hickey didn't have the size for certain SEC matchups. With the addition of the big guy, we should see even more blocked shots/changed shots at the rim. I would however like to see Mickey do a better job at trying to beat the offensive player to spots instead of allowing players to get inside position just so that he can get a better shot blocking angle. The most interesting thing will be who wants the ball at the end of the close games. From what I've seen, Josh Gray seems to have that "it" factor while Martin has the most upside and NBA potential. Hopefully these guys gel because the talent on this team is the most since '06.

I think our defensive woes start on the perimeter and Im really confident that Gray/Hornsby can vastly improve our perimeter defensively.

I agree this will help our defense by default...simply having longer bodies to defend shots. However, I think what the previous poster was talking about was the inability of Jones's players to play team defense. The ability for them to rotate, beat players to spots, take charges, and not foul as much.

I never know what to expect from game to game, not to mention season to season.

We had a serious issue getting thru screens. That was where a ton of teams hurt us. Either figuring out a way to switch players better or having guys work harder on learning to get thru screens is priority on the defensive end. Hickey was really lazy trying to break thru screens and Stringer was quick enough to, but his size allowed players to elevate over him after just a step or two.

I agree...getting thru screens is a teachable thing. To be honest, I'm not sure that it's been coached too well so far. Stringer fought over screens well, but like you said sometimes lacked the size to go over them. Hickey was indeed lazy and usually went under the screen which left guys with open shots. One thing I will say is that the big guys seemed to show pretty well on the ball screen...better than under the two previous coaches.

I think we will be more consistent than last year with just as much if not more talent than last year therefore I think we go dancing. I think we lose to maybe old dominion or UAB but beat tech and West Virginia but I certainly think we gunna stomp the teams that are worse than us and knock off uk or florida. And if we play our cards right we could win the sec tourney.

Yeah you could say I'm new. I usually just chime in regarding football but basketball is really my gig.

Yea. I'll do scouting reports on opponents, recaps, photography, etc. Chicken gave me a blog on here for LSU basketball. There's a link in my 1st post on the 1st page to all the preview articles I'm doing running up the the start of the season. Been doing previews for about 4-5 years now I believe.

Always good to have more basketball guys on here.

Kige all this. Stringer and Hickey were really exciting players to watch with the ball in their hands, but for the most part, they were liabilities on the other end of the court.

Agree...although I do think that we will miss Hickey's "big game" attitude. Say what you want but a midst all of his faults he wanted the ball in his hands at the end of the game...even though the results were very inconsistent!

This needs to be replaced, but I am hopeful that we get that from Hornsby.

He's been a team leader dating back to last season, even though he wasn't playing. Also against the two top 25 teams he played against (Ohio State and Louisville) as a sophomore at UNC-A he averaged 24.5 PPG and made 10 of 14 threes.

Just making the big dance would be good enough for me.

I am looking forward to Hornsby...but I also think Josh Gray may have that ability to rise up during big games. Hornsby seems to be a good kid and hard worker though...really pulling for him to do well.
