You can also try a target date find such as VFFVX just pick the one according to your retirement date. It has the total stock market, international and a small amount of total bond market (if you're young). It then rebalances for you over the years. You can do that until you have a substantial amount 50-70k then break it out into individual funds if you'd like.

I'm about to buy admiral shares of the VFINX, I also have some money in an international mutual fund with schwab.
If I were in my early to mid twenties I would look into the mid to small cap index funds.

I have $18 in vanguard funds. Breakdown as follows:
VGTSX $3
VBMFX $3
VTSMX $6
VWELX $3
VSMGX $3
Would any of you guys recommend moving some funds around to VTSAX? I'm young and a pretty big risk taker.

I use VINIX in my 401k because it is the only Vanguard/low exp ration fund in my selections.
It is a large cap US index fund that ends up very closely mirroring SPY.
