I had an old modem and mine bounced between 20 and 30 a lot and then it would drop over time until I had to restart the router.

Got a new router and new modem and it has never dropped below max or not that I noticed and never when tested.

Not sure if my previous problem was the router or the modem since I replaced them both.

I upgraded my modem to the sb6141 last year and my speeds improved dramatically. Even using a $15 TP Link WR541G router, I can get 60 Mbps when hardwired. Wireless is terrible. I never even get 10 Mbps down on wireless. I have the ASUS RT-AC66U being delivered tomorrow. That should help with my wireless speeds.

It is BS. Use your own.

Edit: If you upgraded internet, make sure your current modem is still useable (Docsis 3.0, mainly).

It's BS. They just want you to pay extra to lease their modem

That won't do a thing for your wireless speeds unless you upgrade the devices on your network to AC1750 standards.

might need to get a docsis3 modem.

i'm getting 130mbps on my connection

and you definitely don't need a cox modem. When I was having issues with my connection, they said the same thing, until they found something wrong with the box down the street from my house. once they fixed that, i was boosted to where I was supposed to be.

the first ASUS RT-AC66U I got from Amazon was bricked in the box. Couldn't even get the power LED to light up at all. Got my replacement yesterday. My download speeds on WIFI have increased as expected. I've been getting about 60 Mbps hardwired and more like 5 Mbps over wifi on all devices. My wife's iPad 2 went from 4 Mbps to over 40 Mbps consistently. My Moto X and Surface Pro 3 saw improvements from about 5 Mbps to close to 50 Mbps.

Plus, the range is much improved. And, I loaded the Merlin Firmware so that I could go stealth mode and disable the LEDs.

Just keep in mind there may be other external factors affecting your speed such as the condition of the outside wiring providing the service to your residence. Is your cable signal strong or are there signs of pixellation or video dropout?

I definitely saw improvement when i upgraded, but my equipment was ancient, around 10 years old.

yeah, i was replacing a Wireless G router that I got for $25 almost 5 and a half years ago. So, I was due for an upgrade.

Last night I was getting over 61 Mbps over wifi on my Moto X. On the older router, I rarely got over 9 Mbps. I'm super happy.
