I respect Notre Dame and Stanford. While football players certainly don't have the same admissions requirements as other students, I don't think they compromise their academic standards as much as more successful football schools.

Always underachieving.... Doesn't get the talent it used to. They ARE AMERICAS team though and will always be watched.... IF they make the playoff this year and have to face and top teir SEC team the same thing will happen like it did against Bama two years ago.

I have no clue about their talent, but they seem to be a respectful team coached by a good coach. Completly opposite of FSU.

Brian Kelly has done a great job digging them out of the abyss that Ty Willingham and Charlie Weis left. Does anything more need to be said? What he has done there has been nothing short of incredible. And, to be fair, I didn't think he'd work out there. I was wrong about him.

Kind of like Mississippi State squeaking by UAB? Even teams with great talent struggle against inferior opponents.

Alabama gave up over 400 yards to Georgia Southern and later won the BCS Title that season.

At least UNC belongs to a major conference.

If you watch the program week in and week out, year after year, ND has been trending up for awhile since BK took over. Last year was a bit of a step back as far as results go, but not really how the "program" was going.

I think people also underrate the 2012 team, just because of the finish. That was a very, very good team. You don't go undefeated in the regular season, beat a Big 12 Champion on the road by three scores and beat the Pac 12 Champion and Rose Bowl winner unless you're a very, very good team. They were not elite and not ready for the ultimate big stage (i.e. the National Championship) but they were not some scrub team that would lose four games in the SEC or Pac 12. Yeah, ND got killed by Bama. You know who else lost a game by 28 that season? Georgia, the team that was "less than 10 yards from destroying Notre Dame." You know who else was destroyed by Alabama in the NCG? LSU the year before. I just don't think that game means much for the season as a whole, just that ND wasn't quite ready for the ultimate stage.

ND is having a great season and should have won the other night. But they still don't have the same kind of players that could compete in the SEC on a weekly basis...

That may be one of the dumbest things you have typed. Notre Dame gets as good of players if not better than SEC.

He had a really good track record before hand, but yeah, certainly thought it'd take him a bit before getting to a BCSNCG. He's done a very nice job

I love B Kelly. Not that he was going anywhere else, but I seem to remember some schools weren't jumping at him due to whispers about drinking issues. Anyway, I couldn't figure out those first few years at ND why he didn't have high octane offenses like at Cinci. It must have just been the QB. I also thought they might fall off a bit with Diaco leaving, but Van Gorder is doing a nice job. I know this SEC dominated board thinks ND would get whumped in the playoff, but I think they are ready for it now. Kelly seems like a psycho win at all cost guy sometimes and you can say guys are getting in trouble under him, but at least ND drops the hammer and benches kids. More than you can say for a lot of other programs.

So why do they struggle against teams they shouldn't??? They are WAY inconsistent. They have been this way since the late 80's...........

LSU does this

Alabama almost lost to Arkansas

lots of teams struggle with teams when they just go through the motions. don't let facts get in the way of the weekly ND bashing.

Nix Shembo Roninson Golston etc were all wanted by SEC schools.

Do not act like they weren't.

I don't understand why PJ thinks every national title contender has to win every game by 5 touchdowns. Not every past champion won every single football game.

PJ thinks a team sucks if it can't beat the 1999 Seminoles.
