My guess on the timeline is that it has been 2-3 years.

Has it? 1 season doesn't = 1 year. The events of last season happened over the span of several weeks. Do we have an idea of what the actual timeline on the show has been?

From when it happened

1 month for the STHTF and everyone clear out
1 month till Lori and Shane knocked boots
1-2 months till Lori got preggo
10 months to carry baby
Judith is about 6-8 months old

I'd say it's been maybe 2 years so far. A fully charged battery could have some juice left in it for a year plus you never know at what time during the above timeline that the vehicle found actually quit running.

Did not read OP. Just wanted to comment on the irony of samson'sseed saying anything about a logical flaw.

I'm out.

I was wondering how they fed Judith when she was younger. Did I miss an episode where they happened upon a large quantity of formula?

Maybe someone can explain to me how they can have cars running without electrical power.

It has been several years now. Car batteries will run out of juice. I know a chargers can recharge car batteries, but they need electrical power to charge up the chargers.

There was no electrical power in the church where they were at yesterday.

Moreover, gas pumps will not work without electrical power. Where are they getting gas? I suppose they could siphon it from other cars, but I'm not seeing cars in the the middle of the woods at their present locality.

a car battery can sit for a few years if not hooked up and keep power.

My flaw came before all that. Gas wouldn't last 2 years just sitting in the cars or tanks.

Yeah they found formula at least once. IIRC, the first time Glenn and Maggie hooked up was on a formula run.

Formula was an issue in a couple of episodes. Michonne helped get some. I forget if that was the last time they got some, but the last I remember it being mentioned Hershal said that they had enough to last for 2 months.

It's the Gilligan's Island of horror shows. Just accept it.

Though in real life that jump box is dead as a door nail.

If the damn thing is like any one of the 10 that I've bought over the years, it's dead 5 days after unplugging it!!!

The general consensus is that the Z outbreak happened a little over 18 months ago.

As for fuel, most the scenes are in rural areas and farms usually have fuel tanks for the equipment. Since there's not many folks tooling about in cars, gas might be easier to find than food.

False. It has not even been 2 years yet.
Car batteries would be fine.

It has been around 520 days or so since the outbreak.

This is what I was thinking as well.

I think a lot of people assume the show is now 5 years later because we're in the 5th season, but not that much time has passed at all really since the beginning.

wow you guys..have none of you ever driven a stick??

you push start them even with a dead battery. i had a datsun when i was at lsu and went for an entire YEAR with a dead battery because i was too poor to buy a new one.

you just Fred Flinstone it and you're good to go.

once you have a car running off the alternator, you can easily jump another car that has an auto transmission.

Another logical flaw is that dead cannot walk and will not walk. They also will not bite you and eat your flesh.
