re: Why do LSU fans leave football games so early?

Why does it matter? How does other people leaving early affect your enjoyment? If anything, I welcome early exits it because you get more room to stretch out.

I would agree with you...

It's traffic. Plain and simple. Nobody wants to sit in a line of unmoving traffic for 3 hours just to get to bluebonnet.

.leaving early doesn't really help.

quote:Unfortunately it's not just the student section. Even large swaths of the prime 50 yard line seats were vacant early in the second half last night.
Those 40-50 percent of students are drunk and don't want o be standing in Tiger Stadium for three and a half hours.

Need to keep calling the leavers out IMO. This fanbase needs a talkin to.
Again, how does this affect you? Oh, some people who aren't LSU fans are gonna say bad things about LSU fans. Who gives a crap?
If the game is close, people will stay and will affect the other team, if that's possible. When the game is no longer in doubt, people leave. Deal with it.
And maybe leaving early doesn't shorten the commute time, but if the commute time is the same either way, leaving early still gets you home earlier. People have lives outside of football. Good grief.

It does, however, impact the perception other teams have about the intimidation factor of Tiger Stadium. And I know LSU players see the empty seats and that can't be an encouraging experience for them.
Another reason I'm concerned is I read earlier in the week that last night's game was a big recruit night for LSU.

People leave games early because they simply do not care. Its as easy as that.

I've been going to LSU games since the 80's and fans leaving early isn't really new. Fans have always left blow out games early. In my opinion you have a perfect storm of the following conditions:
Back in the glory days of Tiger Stadium every game wasn't on TV so they moved along without a gazillion TV timeouts. The TV timeouts are really killing the stadium experience. LSU needs to show highlights of other games at the start of the game all the way through the game. Instead of waiting until midway through the 3rd qtr.
The expectations of program were less, and home wins were cherished more. Now it's championships or bust.
People didn't have cell phones where they could text their friends that are leaving and coordinate after game plans. You would typically meet at the car, tailgate spot, or at the airplane.
Finally, the game has evolved and we continue to run a very boring offense. It's effective to point that it has won games, but it will not keep the fans attentions especially once the game is in hand.

I remember Skip Bertman saying years ago that he'd rather have fans upset with his team rather than not care.

Our fans have become so spoiled that winning isn't fun anymore. Winning games went from being exciting to just ordinary. When LSU has a comfortable lead they think their job is done and its time to go home or party or whatever. Its gotten to the point that our fans are more excited about the tailgate or postgame party or different games on TV then attending the game in Death Valley.
I was in the small minority of students left at the game last night. We better get our shite together next week. We could really use one of those magical Saturday nights.

A reason no one has mentioned:
There's more beer and a TV back at the tailgate, dude.

And all I said was I didn't get it. The fact is more fans used to stay. A large majority of the students gave a shite and the place used to be a magical place.
Apparently you've never witnessed Tiger Stadium at it's best. Or maybe you have for one game here and there. I think the OP like many miss that and realize it may never be again.

1. Bring in flask
2. Keep buzz going and stay whole game
3. ????
4. Profit!

I read somewhere that showing highlights of games still in progress violates most TV contract deals. I don't know if that affects what LSU shows on its video screens.
Even the local news and sports shows can't show highlights from the first half of an LSU game if the game is still in progress.

Fans these days seem more like tourists. They go to Tiger Stadium to "check it out" like they would the Grand Canyon.
There's no sense of "going to war" anymore.
And no ... it hasn't "always been this way."
One game in particular I remember is Kentucky, 1996. We won 43-13. Late in the fourth, Kentucky was driving and a full stadium was screaming not to let them score 20.

Here is something no one brings up but ol the seats/bleachers in TS are down right uncomfortable even with the chair backs after a few hours and add that to the now 4 hour game and it can be down right miserable.

I was referring that to the OP
I've seen many great games in Tiger Stadium. I've also seen people bitch about the same topic over and over and over

I'm really not one to go at it with people on here. We're all LSU fans at the end of the day and want the best. I get that.
The topic has been discussed into the ground over the last few years. I think it's just frustrating for many people who don't see the excuses holding water, ya know?
Eta I'm guilty of reading all these threads to see if there is a legit excuse. none yet.

Poor traffic flow leaving the stadium. It's amazing how much quicker it is when you leave a little early and the game has basically been decided. A big difference to those of us who don't live in Baton Rouge.
