I loved the Village and own it on DVD. I've watched it 4 or 5 times. The twist is the best part.

I also love Lady in the Water. I don't understand the hate for that one either. I also own it on DVD and have watched a number of times. As a fantasy nerd, I thought it was a great take on misinterpreting prophecy. Plus, Paul Giamatti is always money.

I never saw the one where the plants killed everybody, which everyone says is terrible. The only Shyamalan movies I saw that came out after Lady in the Water were The Last Airbender and that one last year with Will Smith and his kid. It was those two movies that made me see why everyone hates Shyamalan.

Just seems like his films got progressively worse, with each new one being worse than the previous one. The only two I care for are The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable.

It's not a terrible film but Shymalan had sort of become a cliche at that point and everyone was basically expecting some sort of Twilight Zone twist ending.

If this had been made earlier in his career it probably would have been better received.

I don't know if this is more a commentary on the movie or me, but I only watched it once and don't remember a thing about it.

The Village is an incredibly good and smart movie. Definitely Shyamalan's best movie. A lot of you guys have brain dead taste in movies.

Let's discuss the merits of fricking G.I. Joe!!

ETA- My apologies for being a prick. I'm sensitive when it comes to The Village because I like it a lot and respect it for what it was trying to do (at least what I think it was trying to do). It's basically an allegory about what fear can do to a society (especially when's it's a manipulated fear). Keep in mind it came out only a few years after 9/11.

Always liked it - and actually for the acting...I thought Phoenix and Ron Howard's daughter were great. She was really great.

And I think their scene on the porch at night is one of the great scenes in movies.

In my house we refer to this as the movie we do not speak of.

For those who figured out the twist... how did you do it?

For me it was the early over-talk of not being able to go to "the towns."

As if outside society in the 1800's was so bad...that everyone gets murdered. This idea that nobody could leave lead to the question of "what?"

And once the "animals who wore cloaks" showed up...sort of sealed the deal.

Honestly, I don't remember specifically. But I remember about halfway through I knew it was something close to what happened. It just seemed obvious that theirs was a phony situation and that the real world was out there somewhere.

More like a blatant rip off of a children's book.

1. I knew who made this movie, so I knew there would probably be a big twist.
2. The accents and phrasings were so bad. I remember thinking they sounded like regular modern people trying to sound like they were from a long time ago.
3. The clincher was how there was a cure in another town. It had to be a kind of antibiotic.
4. I like twilight zone and movies with twists like this: sixth sense, matrix, the others, etc

That was the first Shyamalan movie I saw.

When I first saw the film and noticed the insulated pane windows on the old cabins early in the movie, I decided it was either a mistake or this was some kind of isolated village.

I didn't dislike the movie at all.
