Okay, first off, I know that, after the Atlanta Falcons, the team that Saints fans love to hate is the Dallas Cowboys. But if the Saints are smart, they'll look at what the Cowboys are doing, and try to follow their example by... RUNNING the football!!

With the stable of backs the Saints have (Ingram, Robinson, and Thomas), the Saints could not only control the clock but keep the other team's offense, and better yet, our defense off the field. Because let's face it, the days of putting the entire offense on Drew's back are done, and if the Saints want to turn this season around, they need to run the football, period.

Before the Cowboys turned to a run-based offense with DeMarco Murray, they were just like the Saints... pass-happy offense with a defense that would get gashed again and again. Why does the defense get gashed? Because they get freakin tired with all the three and outs that come with a pass happy offense.

It's ultimately in Sean Payton's hands, I just hope he understands that while Drew Brees is still the center-piece of the offense, it's time to let our undervalued and underrated running backs take charge.

Have absolutely zero faith we will become a 50/50 run pass team

in 2013, Dallas passed the ball 65% of the time.
in 2014, Dallas is passing the ball only 51% of the time.

Here are our passing stats since our Super Bowl:

2009 - 55%
2010 - 65%
2011 - 62%
2012 - 65%
2013 - 63%
2014 - 63%

The only year we even made it to the NFC championship we were at 55%…and it's the only way this season can turn it around of Payton will get his head out his arse and quit going 5-wide with no backs on 1st down.

I think we'd be fine if we stop emptying the backfield.

Well the Cowboys have invested heavily in their O-line. I remember the week before the Saints played the Vikings in '09, I remember watching the Vikings demolish the Cowboys, and what happened was the Dallas O-line had holes and injuries and they completely fell apart against that Williams Wall defense. I watched the game and I lurked on Cowboys and Vikings message boards to learn about both the teams, and it was definitely THE topic of conversation, it was all about the Dallas O-line falling apart, costing them a great season that they had.

Their high round draft picks from 2010 to now were Dez Bryant (no brainer) and TONS of O-linemen in the 1st-4th rounds...center...guard...tackles. And these picks were from sorta proven places and big grinding teams, like Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Missouri. They didn't spend a lot of time drafting unknown "projects" or small community college guys or weird schools, like the Saints sometimes do.

So the Cowboys we are seeing today, were sorta born out of that '09 game...they have really committed to the big beefy guys and to drafting and acquiring/developing unglamorous positions....

Yet they still have pro bowl skill players (Dez, Murray, Witten, romo).

I would love to see us ruin more, but with regard to the Cowboys, the fundamental difference is that just taking the ball out of Romo's hands arguably makes you a better offense. Not at all true with Brees.

I don't know about that. He's a pretty decent qb. The dude had jack and shite for protection for a long long time. He can definitely win games for you. I honestly think that outside of an outlier with an excellent qb it'd be hard to win a sb with anybody throwing 65 percent of of the time.

While I don't disagree with the major points, this doesn't apply to the Saints

We don't go 3 and out often and have the best 3rd down% in the nfl

Yep, at least leave the threat to run

I hate Atlanta and the cowboys. Followed by Chicago, carolina, Tampa bay, Seattle and from the annoying aspect Minnesota. Then it's like san fran, Atlanta again, etc

When the Saints threw the ball for an incompletion on the first play of the Cleveland game I knew that was going to be a long game. I just shook my head and thought "Here we go, abandoning the run from the first play"

Considering the way Drew is throwing the ball this year behind our O-line that is getting whooped in pass protection, us running the ball more controlling the clock & giving our D time to rest & prevent Drew from getting killed would pretty much make us automatically better, especially with our average ypc

I agree with SenatorJones. Everytime I see peoples draft lists for next year, Seldom do I see OL in the first few rounds. We need OL help badly. In my opinion Drew's biggest problem this year is pressure. He is my favorite QB of all time, but his one flaw again imo is he gets "happy feet" when he gets hit a few times. Usually followed by a few bad picks. It's time we spend some picks on high round OL to help out the Best QB we have ever or probably will ever have.
