My mom has people's health and has had them for a very long time. Next year she will have to pay a monthly premium of $39.99. I have been watching over the years how people's health ends up costing my mom more and more each year. Disgusting to take advantage of our senior citizens.

I feel for you and your mom. But your mom costs a lot more than that to take care of.

I'm guessing you don't understand how insurance works.

How often does she see a doctor...? Do all of the visits add up to more than $480 ?

I worked in an Orthopedic clinic for years. People's Health is by far the worst insurance company to deal with. Tell her to switch now! Their authorization process is such a pain in the arse that one of the biggest orthopaedic clinics in Baton Rouge is probably going to drop the contract with them at the end of the year.

If your 78 year old mother doesn't get at least $479.88 worth of treatment in a year, she's a medical marvel and you should be thankful you received her superior genes.

I know they are but it's just disgusting how the cost of living increases but their check doesn't. My Dad passed away when he was 57 years old. The only money that was paid out of the money my Dad put in social security was the 11 months before my 18 th birthday. What happens to the rest of the money he put into the system?

You seriously bitching about $40 a month?!

Hell I wish I was paying that a month for my insurance.

Old people cost a ton to take care of. With all the medications they are on and how even a simple thing like the flu can land them into the ICU.

social security basically needs people to pay into the system and either work until they die or die before they retire

it's how they fund the rest

His money went to codgers retired while he was working. Your mom prolly gets benefits as a result of his working, plus Medicare.

I wish I could get a policy for $40

From our experience, Humana Gold Plus is a lot better.

I am not in the insurance business. I am speaking from experience of working in an orthopaedic clinic.

Eta: It's not the cost that matters so much. People's denies procedures like crazy. And like I said, their authorization process is so complicated that no one wants to deal with them.
