That's all well and good if you want to put your girlfriend through weekly handgun combat jam clearing training, but realistically that isn't going to happen in most cases. It's much easier to learn how to operate a pump shotgun safely and effectively than any handgun. Somebody who isn't shooting a lot isn't going to be able to hit anything with a handgun anyway without a Golden horseshoe in their arse.

Dead set on a handgun? Get a revolver. Pick it up and click the bang switch. Doesn't go bang? Click it again. No complicated training required beyond ability to not shoot yourself and hit what you're aiming at.

What happens after panic sets in and they shoot too many? Now they have only 5-6 shots and have to reload. Talk about nerve racking with reloading each bullet under stress. I believe the FBI came out with a study and said 70-80% of the shots taken from trained officers miss. I would think that a little "extra" training on rerack and emergency drills will be more than beneficial when it comes time to reload more ammo with a magazine full of 15 more bullets.

Got the same gun. Mine was handed down, made in America. I love it. Only pistol I own. I keep 6 hollow points in it. Boom!!! is the sound it makes.

6 for sure.

I know zero women who would invest the necessary time the deploy a semi auto effectively. They generally don't care that much, and neither do I.

My wife liked the simplicity of smith .357 loaded with 38sp defense rounds. It is my favorite as well.

Doesn't kick as much, but nastier recoil.

Please explain that comment...
Like others have said already, recoil is different based on the mass of the gun.

I've got a FEG PA-63 in 9 makarov that very few of my friends/family enjoy shooting, even though quite a few have .45 ACP pistols. It's small, easily concealable, has really good ergonomics and points well. But the recoil feels like you are striking an anvil- you get a harsh jolt along your thumb and throughout your wrist. Not a lot of muzzle flip though.
