JPJ and Bonzo are the bedrock of the band, and any band would kill for that duo. From that era, maybe only Yes has as great of a rhythm section.
Moon & Entwistle > JPJ and Bonzo

Also Baker & Bruce aren't far behind

Your opinions = facts

Well PF is my favorite band of all time, but I guess if there was some ranking of who was "better" I'd probably say LZ. They are in my top 3 as well.

Zeppelin by a mile. Pink Floyd may have been more creative and innovative, but most of their stuff is just really boring. They kind of remind me of that really hip indie rock band that is SO unique and SO innovative, but just doesn't "rock". When I want to "rock", Pink Floyd is just not a band that can really supply that kind of music. Zeppelin can, even though much of their first couple albums were rip-offs of old blues songs.

That's probably a good way to put it. LZ had better musicians but I usually like listening to PF a little more (subject to mood).

I love Bruce, who I would argue is the engine that drove Cream, but Ginger Baker is just all over the place. He's not my favorite. I thought about Moon and Entwistle, and I won't argue against them. I think Bonham and JPJ are better, but I didn't want to detract from my point that Bruford and Squire are severely underrated (as is Howe on guitar). Yes got lost in its own pretentiousness at times, but man, their rhythm section could f'n swing.

The bass is the best part of Yes. Squire is an absolute monster, and is up there with some of the best bassists of all time.
So many insane moments, the opening jam part of Close to the Edge, South Side of the Sky, actually pretty much of all Fragile he's killing it.
And of course the best bassline of all time (arguably), the beginning of Roundabout

YES has/had the best rhythm section of all time when it comes to rock bands. better than LZ, better than the who, better than the beatles, or pink floyd.
just an opinion
absolutely

That post prompted me to re-listen to Fragile
Yes kills it. So underrated in the GOAT discussions.

did you hear the flaming lips version of "Heart of the Sunrise"?
Posted on 10/14/14 at 1:11 pm to monsterballads

Yes was such a phenomenal band. My favorite prog by far
Side note: The Roundabout tease at 12.31.93* would've been awesome to hear live.
*iirc

I'm pretty familiar with that show (a top 10 all timer, maybe even top 5)
nevermind just looked it up it's right after Ginseng Sullivan, which makes sense I haven't heard it because that's an instant skip for me

That Llama opener literally gives me a boner. I've got a half chub just thinking about it

I hate prog rock... except for Yes. That three album stretch of the Yes Album, Fragile, and Close to the Edge is ridiculous. There's (at least) two of just about everything in Yes' history. Two vocalists, two guitarists, two keyboard players, two drummers... but only one Chris Squire.

Does this mean its time for another prog rock fap thread?
I think so
