Just tried Smokin Aces BBQ for the first time

I have been wanting to try it and finally got the chance today. When I got out of my car I was greeted with that beautiful aroma from a smoking pit.
I went planning on trying some brisket but when I arrived I saw they had a special of quarter chicken, rib, and sausage plate with 2 sides and toast. All for $10.50.
I went with the special. They serve their meats with the sauce on the side the way I like it. The chicken and huge spare rib were both great. The sausage was just ok and I would probably pick another meat if given the choice in the future. The sides of baked beans and macaroni and cheese were seviceable but not spectacular.
Overall I was very pleased and would say that Smokin Aces is easily the best barbecue in Baton Rouge. I will be going back.

I've always enjoyed the meats there, but never felt like the sides lived up.

I work 2 blocks from Dreamlands in Birmingham. Sometimes when I leave the building at 5:00, the wind blows that wonderful aroma right into the parking lot. The sad part is, the food isn't all that great.

That's a damn fine price. The sampler platter at Saw's is quarter chicken, 2 ribs (though they usually do 3), a pile of pork, 2 sides and a drink, and it's at least $17, if I recall correctly.

Deep South BBQ is my current favorite in BR. Still need to try Smokin Aces...

I have had Deep South and it was just kinda meh for me. As far as the meats Smokin Aces blows them out of the water IMO.
I'm looking forward to trying their brisket and pulled pork.

I went to Smokin Aces a few years ago and was not really impressed at all. To me it just tasted like sysco stuff. Maybe he's turned it around?

Agree with your post all except for that. Love the sausage. Dip a little sauce on it. Cole Slaw is very good too.
He was supposed to be opening another location downtown. Anyone got the 411 on that?
