LSU's insane run of putting guys in the NFL as well as the number of underclass men leaving seems to be finally catching up with them this year. The team is young and needs time to develop

Compared to Miss St. Guys like Dak Prescott were only 3* coming out of high school but they stay longer and hence are more mature and experienced playing against freshmen.

I know coaches and fans all want the superstars but then you become a victim of your own success when guys leave early.

Given the choice which do you pick and why?

The better players.

Why? Because they are better.

The problem with this team is a weak 2012 recruiting class that didn't address needs nor did it produce any real superstars.

Next year those two teams may or may not fall off with graduation of those 3 stars. It's no different. It was good timing that the traditional powers were rebuilding while they have some senior leadership. MS state and ole miss are veteran led but it took them, what, 15-20 years to even be competitive. Yeah let's go after lower talent for the next 15 years and hope all of it miraculously comes together at the same time to have 1-2 good seasons. This is rantard finest. My God you people are insufferable.

You're only asking this because they're having a good year while the traditional powers are rebuilding. Alabama, Florida, LSU. Geez.....

so you rather an occasional good season mixed with 7 win seasons vs 9-10 wins year in and out with an occasional down or rebuilding year?

LSU has had plenty of 3 stars who stuck around a while who just weren't any good, even after being in the program for a few years or who transferred because they would never play.

Remove Dak Prescott and they are an avg SEC team. QB position matters more than all others.

Nope.

Prescott doesnt play D. And that D is nasty for Miss St.

Nor does he play OL. That OL is a really good unit. And Robinson is a really good RB.

And they have some playmakers at WR and some guys with great size and strength that are mismatches.

Remove Prescott, and they are still a damn good team.

my opinion is that every team needs some program guys that want to be good college football players and have some pride in playing for the school. Sure you need guys with talent and guys that are going to be 3 and to the NFL, but football is different than basketball and there are tons of hard working, late developing 3 stars that can help you win championships

remove prescott (and replace with georgia, LSU or bama qb) and moo state loses at least 4 games.
qb position elevates entire offense which in turn elevates the defense and the entire morale of the entire program. see florida after tebow, texas after young/mccoy, aTm after manziel.

No matter the stars guys will leave early. Being a high ranked player may make your head a little bit bigger but it really comes down to how bad you want success at the college level and how realistic you are about your abilities.

We had our best team ever with Jordan Jefferson at the helm.

Prescott is great. But not the only great player for Miss St.

You can have both.....

We have had just as many 2* and 3* guys get drafted as we have 4* and 5*.

The answer should be, you would rather have a more experienced team regardless of rankings. But the fact is that higher rankings in recruiting directly correlate to higher finishes in the polls, better bowl games, etc.

Teams can make up for a lack of recruiting by systems and or experience. See Kansas State or even State this year.

Recruiting is a crap shoot, but if you recruit nobody at a position group you can be guaranteed, there will be a lack of production/lack of experience. That's not what happened to LSU guys left early, that's okay, not that we didn't recruit the position.

I think the main question at the heart of the issue is, would you rather recruit guys telling them they have a better and quicker shot to the NFL, knowing in 3-4 years, if they can leave early they will because of the culture. Or create a culture based off of guys waiting their turn and development. This is the real question LSU fans are wrestling with. Because no fan wants what happened this year so far to happen again, but no fan would admit they don't want the ODB or JL80, or the slew of defensive guys we have had leave early.

Les Miles and co. know what they are doing, and I personally do not have a problem with it, and can take some lumps this year, knowing in 1-2 years, watch out we will be scary good. Not many guys will leave early this year..... for the simple fact we only have like 1, maybe 2 that could even leave early

Keep in mind, the NFL has more 3 stars and below in the league compared to recruits who were 5 and 4 stars.

This is a fact. The bottomline is coaching the players up.

I hear ya. On TV the announcer described their defense as a bunch of 2 and 3 stars.

I wish, they've been getting 5's in each class, especially on the DL

The problem with this team is actually that the coaches think like you do. Our "needs" are the same every year - about one player for every position. There are 22 starting positions, so if you get one of each, your class is almost full. Use the rest for specialists and for running backs and DB's, because you need more of them.

Our coaches continue to recruit for "needs" - that is, every year they have one or two position groups that were poorly recruited a couple of years earlier, so we "need" freshman to man the positions. Two years ago it was DL and QB; that's why we suck at DL and QB right now. This past year it was RB and OL. RB is a position you can play young guys; OL is not. We will probably suck at OL next year.

I saw, in another thread, some guy posted that we don't "need" more than 1 or 2 DL this year. Yeah, okay, as long as you don't mind getting gashed up the middle in 2017 like we're getting gashed this year.

*sigh*

How many more 3 stars and below are there compared to 5 and 4 stars?

What percentage of 5 stars make it to the NFL?
What percentage of 4 stars make it to the NFL?
What percentage of 3 stars make it to the NFL?
What percentage of sub-3 stars make it to the NFL?

:smh:
